Presidente (Polanco): pretty...
Presidente (Polanco): pretty much the same as the Nikko, except the service is not as flawless and it's jammed-packed with US businessmen; greatest selection of excellent restaurants at your doorstep though. No swimming pool either. Check-in the Nikko and eat in the Presidente if you can.
Hotel Polanco (Polanco): this is a much smaller hotel than the Nikko or Presidente but it offers good value for money and an excellent location at the edge of a park bordering Campos Eliseos street. The rooms are functional and clean. A single costs around US$90 while a junior suite is only US$110. There is a good Italian restaurant, La Bottiglia, just next door.
Royal (Zona Rosa): good location on the fringe of Zona Rosa, decent prices, nice rooftop garden, delicious orange juices, good service, awful food, helpful people at reception and tons of tourist in the peak season. A good choice if you are on a budget and can't afford the Nikko.
Diplomatico (Insurgentes): cheap hotel with very decent rooms on the 8th floor. Book a room opposite to Insurgentes Sur if you want to sleep more than 30 seconds during the night! Great value for money but very poor service, especially at reception.
Casona (Durango): boutique style hotel slightly out of the way yet very centrally located. Decorated with taste and character with antique furniture and colourful wall paintings. Discounted rates of US$129 per night are not unheard of. The hotel is 100 metres away from the Palacio de Hierro mall where you can buy about anything you want. However, for dining out the options are limited in the close neighbourhood. Go to Condesa or Zona Rosa.
Bristol (Plaza Nexaca): located five blocks from the Angel of Independence, the hotel Bristol is in a quiet and less depressing surrounding than the rest of the area. In many ways it is similar to the Diplomatico. Prices are quite aggressive: Pesos $462 (plus tax 15%) for a regular room, $536 for a room with a view, $622 for a junior suite, $971 for the penthouse suite.
