More about Casa del Las Bugambilias B&B
I almost hate to recommend Casa Bugambilias because it's so small and wonderful I'd hate to see it over-run. However, I want to do justice to the Cabrera family. So, let me say that my wife and I found it wonderful in every way. It's beautiful, with great attention to detail, especially around the dining table. It was hard to eat sometimes as the food looked so lovely. And, it lived up to expectations. Also, the food at the attached La Olla restaurant was also outstanding.
The people were marvellous- both the staff and many of the other guests. We enjoyed the conversation around the breakfast table, as well as the advice and and care we got from Aurora. We also greatly enjoyed their family. (My wife took a cooking class from Pilar, Aurora's sister, and loved it. The other people who worked there were knowledgeable and lovely also.
We really liked the location of the Bugambilias- close to the Santo Domingo Church, and easy walking distance to the Zocalo.
We loved it there.
A fine place to stay
My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant week here. The breakfasts, particularly, were outstanding, full of fruits and creative vegetable dishes. The group around the large breakfast table was most congenial. Perhaps the best thing about our room was the cat, Tigre, who adopted us very graciously. The hotel lacks a communal sitting area, except for the little cafe-type tables and chairs, and the garden-terrace outside our room was not private. One night we stayed in a room with balcony, which was secluded and beautiful. Aurora and her staff were a joy.
Being in the same building as La Olla restaurant, which is very good, added to the cmfort of the stay.
We returned for our second visit, and will return again -- it's that good
We stayed at Las Bugambilias in November, 2004 and returned in November, 2005 -- each time for eight days.
It's spic-and-span clean, safe (never a worry about security), the food is superb as is the service, and all the employees are friendly and very helpful. ¡Viva!
Su Casa Es Mi Casa
Our three weeks say in Oaxaca was made something beautiful in no small part by the ambience of the facility and the assistance of the owners and staff at Las Bugambilias. There is no better location in Oaxaca for walking and enjoying centro. Our room was quiet and beutifully decorated. Breakfasts were delicious and beutifully presented. The artwork and flora throughout were feasts for the eyes. Most important, Aurora, Mariana and Don were like tour guides to us first-time visitors, which made our time and money well-spent.
There us simply no other place to stay in Oaxaca than Casa del Las Bugambilias.
Five Weeks of Bliss
We spent five weeks at Bugambilias. We had a marvelous time and loved every detail. Each morning the table is beautifully set in glorious colors. The menu for breakfast changes each day and is always a gourmet experience. (It never repeated once.) Colors, flowers, the decor of the whole house, visually, aesthetically, it feels like you are living in a fine work of art, a gallery, or a museum. At the same time everything is comfortable and relaxing. The patio is a delightful garden room to enjoy at any hour. Our room had superb lighting for reading at night and comfortable chairs. The bed was excellent, the bedding always fresh and colorful. Soundproofing excellent, and our room had good, reliable hot water and ventilation. It was meticulously cleaned every day. Aurora, Don, Alvaro and Jorge were warm, knowledgeable and helpful. Mesina, Juanita and Gemma took great care of the rooms and table. We took a cooking class with Pilar at her Casa and loved that. Her restaurant at the front of the building, La Olla, we enjoyed eating in many times, especially the fresh salads and superb regional dishes. Every few days there were fascinating guests, international and from all parts of the states. Aurora helped us with day trips to all the artisan villages and gave us invaluable tips on buying crafts and other items throughout the town. She invites selected artists and artisans to visit the house. You feel you are a guest at a private house and that you are being introduced to the essential features of the culture of Oaxaca. The location is excellent. You can explore the town and get back for a siesta or change of clothes and then on to evening dinners or activities with ease. First-rate wi-fi internet connection. Tigre the cat considers you one of the family.
Pure Heaven at Las Bugumbilias
We spent three weeks at Bugambilias. We loved the B&B and Oaxaca. We love the vibrant colors of Mexico and we were able to experience them daily with the dining table's beautiful linens: each day the table setting AND the menu were different. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting the people we dined with. Each room is a work of art and we loved our room, Las Margaritas, with it own private balcony overlooking the interior garden. Our room had plenty of hot water and was meticulously cleaned daily. Aurora, Don, Alvaro and Jorge were warm, knowledgeable and helpful. Mesina, Juanita and Gemma took great care of the rooms and table. We loved the cooking class with Pilar at her Casa de los Sabores. Her restaurant, La Olla, at the front of the building, was a frequent lunch or dinner stop for us and we had no concerns about eating the wonderful fresh salads and superb regional dishes. Aurora and Alvaro helped us with day trips to all the artisan villages and gave us invaluable tips on buying crafts and other items throughout the town. The location was perfect--just an easy walk to any part of the town whether the heart of the old city at the Zocalo or a walk to the residential areas and the surrounding hills. At the last minute we realized there would be a wi-fi internet connection available so we brought our laptop but Las Bugambilias even provides a computer for guests. It was just the perfect place to stay from every point of view!
adventure in oaxaca
We stayed at Casa De Las Bugambilias recently, and loved every minute of it. Bugambilias is very well appointed with comfortable furnishings (important after a day's hiking!), beautiful decor (I think we all secretly wished we LIVED there), attentive, friendly, and helpful staff, a first-class restaurant on-site, and excellent stateside phone and wireless connectivity for when you have to stay "in touch." Every morning, there was a delicious breakfast fit for kings, and a day's worth of adventure just outside the Bugambilias front door. We visited mountain villages, artist and craftsman communities, markets, museums, botanical gardens, and archaeological sites while we were there. Also, if you're in the mood for action, we found the local mountainside cable-ride (ask about Benito Juarez) and also the paintball to be MORE THAN INVIGORATING. I just can't recommend Casa De Las Bugambialas any more highly. There, your vacation in Oaxaca is in excellent hands...ENJOY!
Give Yourself a Treat
I can't say enough good things about Las Bugambilias and the folks who run it. My family and I stayed there for a week in June. The staff was friendly, helpful and very attentive and kind. We enjoyed everything from wonderful, full breakfasts, to free use of the internet. Aurora Cabrera, the owner, was always able to answer our questions and to point us in the right direction. The location is very convenient to the zocalo and to Santa Domingo church - within walking distance. I would recommend Las Bugambilias to anyone, without qualifications.
Very Happy with Bugambiliias
We visited Oaxaca in June and stayed several days in Casa del Las Bugambilias. Our stay was excellent. Bugambilias is in the northern part of the historical section of Oaxaca City. It's on a fairly quiet street and the configuration of the building insulates guests from any street noise. The staff was very efficient and friendly. Breakfasts were great. The house is two story and there is a terrace on top of the building. Early mornings and evenings were a great time to visit the terrace. Aurora Cabrara runs Bugambilias. She was very helpful and knowledgable. We hope to visit Oaxaca again and will be staying at Casa del Las Bugambilias again.
Las Bugambilias is a charming, well located B&B. Close to many of the old town sites and museums. The owners are gracious, helpful and genuinely friendly. This small inn has eclectic decor; each room is different and thoughtfully designed.
Each morning the breakfasts were delightful with different juices and breakfasts each day that were delicious!
Las Bugambilias had a very warm feeling as though you were a guest in someone's home. I would definitely return. There is also the advantage of a wonderful restaurant adjacent to the inn that serves wonderful traditional dishes.
A note for visitors, the teachers of Oaxaca go on strike from May 15 to the beginning of June. They camp out in the Zocalo and shut down the airport when I visited so these two weeks are not an ideal time to visit.
