Traveling Highway 1 in Mexico causes you to seek out one the most comfortable of accomodations. The Mision Santa Maria in San Quintin is just that. The place is large, a bit old, but very clean and most important, the beds are comfortable.
Located about 3.5 miles from Highway 1, you get none of the highway noise, only the sounds of the waves crashing onto the shore about 300 meters from the hotel.
The restaurant/bar had a pretty good menu for both dinner and breakfast. I'd probably not recommend the "steak" but then I'm not a fan of boiled meat. The portions were large and the price low, so what's to complain about.
The hotel is only a few years old and still seems fresh and new, and set as the name implies in lovely gardens. Family owned and run, very friendly and hospitable. Good size rooms and wonderful beds, large bathroom. Carmen and Guillermo are your hosts.
I have stayed here about 5 times now over the past 4 years and every time is a true respite from driving the highway; very tranquil and relaxing.
Just a few yards away is a good restaurant, run by another member of the family. Good selection at reasonable prices. (the 5th photo is of the restaurant; closed Mondays)
