Dirty, humid, old fashioned hotel that's supposed to be one of the best ones in Tijuana. Very disappointing.

    I think it's around $100/night.

Unique Quality: A modern western-style luxury hotel within walking distance from the US border.

One of my favorite restaurants, Gypsys (Barcelona-style Spanish) is next door.

ZONA RIO

by trotador

The Zona Rio is the Tijuana's most modern commercial area with malls, restaurants, museums, nightclubs and hotels.

The Centro Cultural Tijuana is one of the principal attractions in this area. It has a planetarium theate, and also contains a museum, the Museo de las Californias.

I used to go to this area a lot for dinning specially to Plaza del Zapato (the name cames because of its shoe stores). Another nice area to have fun at night is Pueblo Amigo.

Tijuana is very popular with young people, specially with those that are 21 or younger, because minimum legal age to drink is 18 years. Avenida Revolucion is very popular for foreigners and lower social classes (not a rule, but it's very common). Better places to have fun are: Pueblo Amigo most popular disco is SeƱor Frogs, also I suggest Mundo Cafe, Zoo'll, el Rodeo and Perro Azul, if you want more places to choose so you should go to Plaza Fiesta or 'Plaza del Zapato', here you can find places to dance and hear music, and some places to eat.

Tijuana Nightlife & Accomodation

by matwau

Looking to travel to TJ for one night. 3 men on business trip stopover to Vegas. Is it worthwhile staying overnight or should we do a day trip from San Diego (if so what time does latest bus go back). Heard a lot of reports about TJ not being to safe at night. Do not want red light / strip crap just good bars and clubs with nice women. Are there any good quality resorts near 'revolution' area. Can anyone help.

Thanks

Matt

I think that Hotel Pueblo Amigo, will be a good option for you is a good hotel steps away from good night clubs, with casino and also steps away from USA border, You can get a taxi there to Ave. Revolution if you want to visit it (is near) but I would never recomend it at night, is not that bad, but not my personal favorite place. There's also a good bars/nightclubs at "Plaza Fiesta" at Zona Rio ( also near the hotel ) is more for locals than tourist, but is really better quality than Ave. revolution.

Hi Matt,

I would agree with "anagrettel."

Adding to that, I'd say that if you tend to or plan on, drinking more than one or two, spending the night might be a good option.

Most of the bars and nightclubs in the "tourist" areas/Avenida Revolucion tend to attract a young crowd, 18 to 20, as the drinking age in Tijuana is 18. In California it is 21 and that is the main focus for most.

The "Red Light" district is generally north of Calle 1, so travel south.

Finding "nice" women is another issue, especially if you are thinking of nice Mexican women. They tend not to go to bars or nightclubs without a date. Sometimes they will go with a group of female friends, so it is not impossible to find.

The bars or nightclubs in the better hotels will probably be your best choice. Especially hotels that attract more Mexican customers than young American customers. I'd suggest looking at the web site of the various luxury hotels to see what they offer in the way of nightclubing.

Thanks for you help. Not Interested in Red light district. Will have a young single guy with me (24) so was more looking out for him. Will look into what you have said. Thanks again for your help.

I would say that if you aren't look for the redlight action, you'd find SD more congenial than TJ. As another poster pointed out, the Revoultion area turns from tourists to punkass american kids at nightfall. There are clubs like Capistrano, but you'd just have more fun in the Gaslamp or San Diego or out at the beaches...like Garnet avenue in Pacific Beach. Or really swank places in La Jolla or Coronado.

Cheers, we will probably just do TJ during day on tour then hang out in SD at night. Thanks for all your help.
