Is Cabo a safe place to go now?

by pcoltrain

My friend & I have a trip to Cabo planned at the end of November, staying at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. We are both female, mid-thirties & our first trip without a larger group.

In light of recent happenings, we are a little apprehensive about going in regards to safety. Is Cabo a safe place to go now?

Also would like any recommendations about where to go/what to see while we're there.

Cabo is perfectly SAFE. You have nothing to worry. The Hotel you are going too is also very nice. I recommend the SUSHI restaurant on the main Blvd, in Cabo.(NIKI SAN I think its called) Also Highly recomend you go to the Beach club at the "ME" of the Melia Hotel on Los Medanos beach(called NIKI BEACH CLUB) also right in town. There are lots of good eats and clubs. If you can get to go or call and see if you can spend a day at "THE ONE AND ONLY PALMILLA" do so. Its where all the Brad Pitts/Travoltas go. (very exclusive & $$$)

I live (Part time) a few hours north of Cabo and feel perfectly safe. Cabo is a bit too touristy for me. Check out San Jose del Cabo about 30 minutes north east and you'll find a great walkable art oriented town. There is (or used to be a few months ago) a Thursday night Art Walk where all the gallaries stayed open late and served wine.

Any city in the world can have crime. Some cities more than others. In my six visits to Cabo San Lucas, I have found the area to be more of a party town for tourists and a fishing village. Cruise ships drop anchor in the bay and tourists are walking the streets of the town from morning till night. Your hotel, being on the Pacific Ocean side should be more quiet since it sits about one and a half miles from the bay marina side and the bars of town. You should read the USA Government report on Mexico and the rules for traveling to and from Mexico. It should give you insight on what to expect and maybe relax you a little for walking around Cabo. Being aware of your surroundings is the most important thing as well as if you drink alcohol, watch how much you drink and watch your drink if in a close encounter. Have responsible fun and enjoy a margarita or two. Ole! Okay that's all your dad has to preach about. lol :-) http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_970.html

Travel Tips for Cabo San Lucas

Off Day once you return from Cabo

by toddakiyama

*
*I always schedule a day-off when returning from Cabo San Lucas.

*Even if you don't plan to party like a rockstar, just laying out on the beach can sap away some of your strength.

*By the time you fly home, you may feel a bit sluggish.
Having a day to gather your barrings prior to returning to whatever you do may be a good idea.

To have the perfect shot of...

by la_beba

To have the perfect shot of tequila, you start with ice-cold tequila, kosher salt, and fresh Mexican limes; then you lick your hand and sprinkle the salt, lick the salt onto the tip of your tongue, slam the ice-cold tequila and bite into the lime..... mmmmmmmm....... For a cultural tip on how to do this same activity but as a 'body shot', check out the picture :o) Because sweat and salt tops off Cabo Wabo nicely!!!!! (did I say tops off??? absolutely!)

Waverunners

by grkboiler

Waverunners are available for rent all over the beach. Prices are steep if you ask me, at US$45 for a half hour or $80 for an hour. I can be fun, but make sure you listen to the vendor who rents it to you and do not go around Land's End into the Pacific or too close to the cruise ships.

Lunch in Los Barriles

by bfiesta

We had a great lunch trip to Los Barriles. The road is very good but a little curvy in spots. Its a solid hour drive. Not much there really. Sleepy sport fishing area that is starting to 'wake up'. We saw lots of large RVs with Canadian plates.

The best digs in town is the Hotel Palmas de Cortez. We went there for lunch and sat out by the lovely pool next to the beach. I ate some of the best tortilla chips I have ever had in my life! Two huge baskets of chips, homemade pico di gallo, a great freshly made guacamole, four margaritas, and two cokes for $25 (with a big tip).

Also looked like a great outdoor taqueria right on the main road as you turn to go to the hotel (large blue tarps)... several locals and many tourist eating.

Great beach as well at Los Barriles. The beach in front of the hotel has a small bay which made for warmer water than in Cabo.

My wife and I are tempted to go back to Cabo and come straight to Hotel Palmas for a stay. Several fishing boats moored in the bay. Would love to go fishing out of Los Barriles.

This is an open air bar that gives you the opportunity to watch the traffic and people who passing by. I like this place because you don't sit in the heat or smoke. Sit just nice outside in the fresh air...
