Beautiful Resort on Cabo del Sol

Sarah and I were thoroughly impressed with the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar in Cabo del Sol, in between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. We went for a relaxing weekend away from everything, and this was exactly what we found.

The hotel is about a 10 minute cab ride from Cabo San Lucas, and about a 20 minute cab ride from the airport. It has everything you would need to survive onsite at the hotel, and we did not venture too much outside of the resort walls. Multiple beautiful pools have plenty of sun and deck chairs around, and there is poolside service all day. The location is on a private beach, so even in the middle of summer it is fairly relaxed, and there is plenty of room to enjoy the peace and quiet.

There are 5 different dining options on the premises, but Tomatoes for morning food was my favorite. They made a great omelet for me, with plenty of good things inside, and wonderful avocado and green salsa on top.

Don't forget your sunscreen!

The Hacienda del Mar is part of the Cabo del Sol complex . It is about 10 km outside of Cabo San Lucas. It is a beautiful resort but you will probably want to rent a car if you stay here. Next time I go, I will probably stay in the city of Cabo San Lucas. Condo style units, satellite TV, kitchenettes, three-tier pool, and tropical gardens.

Do not stay here.

This by all means is no way a 4 star hotel. Service is horible, slow and expensive. Calls are 6$ a minute, and the employees were not helpful in anyway at all. When we made our room reservation, we reserved a ocean front view with a king size bed. When we arrived to the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar, the front desk stated that they overbooked our room and gave us a differnet room with twin double beds and a partial ocean view. They advised us to check back in a few days.
When we came back, still no room avail, and had no idea when one would be. On our second to last day in the resort my husband and I booked a massage at the spa. That morning my husband and I became violently ill, and had to cancel our service, and the spa representative INSISITED they still had to charge us because whe did not give 4 hours notice.
After several arguments and insisting on speaking to a manager, 1 hour later we resolved the dispute and were not charged 400$ for a massage that neither one of us were well enough to receive.

Beautiful exterior but poor noise level

by A TripAdvisor Member

I just spent 9 days at the resort and while we had a very good time I probably wouldn't come back. For the positives the resort exterior is just beautiful, the pools, the location, all extremely nice. While the rooms were fine the noise level was to be honest the worst I've ever experienced at 'any' level of resort. For a resort of this level that is my biggest complaint and disappointment. Every morning at 7:00 it sounded like an army was going through training above us, lasting for couple hours. It actually became joke material as we tried to guess how the family above us was making the sounds they were making. Another negative was front desk. We checked in early thus stayed at hotel, and from charges to mini-bar that we didn't take to late checkout problems, after a while one just pays the extra costs to move on without the hassles. We had a car and I'd strongly suggest that, that was nice. Cabo is really nice, lots of very good restaurants and things to do.

how to enjoy this facility

by A TripAdvisor Member

rent a car at the airport. weekly rates maybe a better deal than the daily rate through the internet priceline method, I paid $17 a day, you will need a car. first stop should be the mercado buy a stryofoam cooler and load it with H20 and gator aid, saves $7 a pop at the pool.
golf just go to the golf corse, I didn't need a tee time when I was there, ( first week of August), hire a boat through the locals two people $225 28ft all tackle 6-12 am... the surf in fornt of the hotel is rough, I almost broke my neck I was thrown around like a 6"4" 250lb rag doll, lost my contacts and shorts, just past the golf course they are bulding a subdivision thak a left and go down to the houses on the water by the 16 green there is the best secluded beach you will find. - shopping- find the pot man, on the left just before you hit town I think the name of the building is "Artesoles' large 3 story building full. go to todos santos and go to san lucas eat at the el patio resturant. enjoy

Resort's Great but Cabo is Pricey

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Hacienda Del Mar is beautiful and the location was great. The service was lacking, however, we spent an uncomfortable August day/night without A/C. You'll need to scrutinize your bill when you leave (we were overcharged and double charged). You'll need to do the same when you venture into town. Constant overcharging at restaurants was a pain and when you're outside the resort, watch out for the ice in the margaritas. We forgot and paid for it. We'll go to Hawaii next time.

Don't recommend this resort

by A TripAdvisor Member

The resort was pretty but there were more negatives than positives.
First of all the service was extremely SLOW. We were always waiting a long time for our food, drinks, and the bill. We asked for water each time we sat down and they brought out bottled water then charged us for it. At the end of the week as we were checking out I complained to the management that the water should have been free and they said that we could have asked for tap water. How were we to know...we asked for water and that is what they brought. Our air conditioning condensation line leaked from our ceiling causing water to puddle on the tile floor which made it very slippery. They came out three times to fix it. We finally watched what they were doing and all they did was empty the pan that the water leaked into instead of fixing it so that is why they had to keep coming back. Both my husband and I slipped on the wet floor. We also felt from the moment we arrived, that their main goal was to sell us a timeshare. When I mentioned that to the management they said that they have nothing to do with the timeshare people, however when we checked in we were ushered over to what I thought was the concierge desk. I thought they were going to explain the special package we got through Classic Vacations. Only at the end of the week did I find out that the person at that desk told us wrong information that ended us costing us more for our meals when some should have been included in the special package. I again complained to management who turned a deaf ear to anything I had to say. This was a family reunion sort of vacation that was paid for by one person. The majority of us checked out 2 days before the rest so the management said that they would fax the itemized bill to us to review. Four days after the promised date I called them to inquire about this. They said that they would fax it that afternoon. Another week has gone by and no fax has been sent. I have let my travel agent know who will pass along the word to Classic Vacations. For the past 10 years or so the family has gotten together every other year for a vacation together and this was the worst! I highly recommend any of the Beaches Resorts in Jamaica and the Bahamas instead. They are very much into customer service!!

Happy hour?

by A TripAdvisor Member

Nice looking place, but we were at least a block from the three pools. Our building ice machine did`nt work. Happy hour which should be a integral part of Mexico is 1 hr. a day. The rest of the time drinks are $7 ea. Meals were very spendy at the on site restaurants but good. Averaging $60 for a light meal for two. The exchange rate was very good but the prices are still high. Have a car and go into town! Bring a soft sided cooler and bring it to the pool. Nice private beach with the pools next to beach. Beautiful location.

Cabo San Lucas

spent turkey week at sheraton hacienda del mar. pool is real nice. rooms are sweet. we had a newer room in villa 29. food is expensive. terrible wine by the glass. very expensive for cheap wine. wine list is ridiculously overpriced. they need a cigar wine bar for socializing. they have a tequila lounge that is basically a well lit waiter station. the lobby lounge could use some mood lighting. tomatoes is best deal there besides the pool bar food. happy hour two for one deals by the pool help. in town - went to the office - pretty good, fun. another fantastic restaurant is ediths - same owner as the office - it is even better. order fancy fire coffee liquior drink. lobster and shrimp at both places are awesome. go to costco and buy a case of water, a few bottles of wine and some snacks and you will thank me if you are there for four plus days. bought the taxi ride from expedia but forgot. signed up for a taxi ride on airport arrival to hotel that cost 75 bucks said if we went to time share at playa grande they would give us some deals. we did it the next day. got a good tour from canadian girl named susie who was pretty nice girl but bailed on the time share deal. got our 75 cash back and free stuff (tequila, mexican blanket, and assorted free tickets to beach and pirate boat) we gave free stuff to our taxi driver and repocketed our 75 bucks. i would skip on the time share deal if you are only there for a few days. go horse backing riding for sure. swim in the ocean. definitely do the expedia greyline shuttle taxi to and from airport. overall a pretty mellow trip with excellent tanning and swimming.

Is Cabo San Lucas OK for a family Trip

by cord77

Hi,

My Husband wants to take the family (we have two kids: 2 yrs old and 11 years old) and my parents (in their 60s) to Cabo San Lucas in May of 2006. I would love to know some opinions on if this is a good place for a family vacation. And also, is May a bad time to go (weather wise). And lastly, He was thinking about Pueblo Bonito Rose for our stay. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I agree, Cabo is a great place for a family vacation. Consider a bigger resort, maybe all-inclussive for lots of activities for the kids. Check out Senior Sweets at the mall downtown for the best desserts ever.

Cabo is a great place for families. We have traveled there with our kids from age 1 and 3 and now they are 9 and 12. We go twice a year. We stay at the Hotel Finisterra. The Pueblo Bonito is a nice place. You will want to rent a car from the airport to hotel and to have to go around town. You can not walk to town from this Hotel and the cab fares will break the bank. Payless car rental is the best price. Book it on line for the best fares. The weather will be great in may. Have a great trip.

Cabo is PERFECT in MAY and PERFECT for families. I would recommend staying at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar. IT has something for everyone and is a magnificent Hotel, plenty of pools and restaurants right on site and only a short cabride into town. May & June are both fantastic!!!
Have fun! (since it is july, u probably already went but I hope it was fun!)
