Things to do

by jekie

Hi!

Does anyone know of a good itinerary for a family with kids aged 19 and 10? The tours/activities we've checked are so expensive so thinking of a do it your own kind of thing. Plan to rent a car so any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks!

Well, Cabo is a drinking town for tourists. It is also a fishing town for tourists. So, prices may be higher than other parts of Mexico. A car, in my opinion is not neccessary in Cabo. Now, if you want to go see San Jose Del Cabo and the resorts in between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo then a car would be nice. There is a bus line as well. Cabo is a "Party till you drop" town with cruise ships in the bay sending in 1000's of tourists eager to see the tourist trinkets and the bars, while San Jose Del Cabo is more citified, but in an old world sense and also has things for the entire family to enjoy. Check out San Jose Del Cabo at: http://allaboutsanjosedelcabo.com/

Travel Tips for Cabo San Lucas

Discount on activities...

by Ronald_T

If you are in Cabo you will face a lot of Timeshare salesman. Those sharks are on every corner, sometimes 5 in one street and that is not nice when you are on vacation. On the other hand, a timeshare presentation can safe you a lot of money. When they invited you for a timeshare presentation and you go, be sure that you are listed all activities you want to do, and also with how many people you are. If you can do this in a shop, be sure that they also offer you a US$ 50 discount in a shop of your choice. The presentation takes about 3 hours. It just depends on how fast you say no or yes. In the mean time you can have free breakfast with champagne and later they open another bottle to. When you finish there do not forget to ask your discount tickets on your activities. It will save you money up to 50%.
If you buy a timeshare is of course all up to you...

Cameras

by themayocynic

Only one photography camera and one video camera per person. I had my digital camera, a lomo and two holgas. I got pulled over, my bags searched and questioned. If my holgas weren't obvious "toy" cameras (The airport official commented,"Oh, not too expensive, this one" when the back of my holga came off), I think I would have been there for a little longer. Plus, because we were travelling with friends who wanted me to take their engagement photos there, I had a lot of film (the limit was 12, I had 15). Airport official didn't like that either. Always check for any limits on things you may be bringing a lot of. I'm not a professional photographer. Professionals have their own list of limits. I don't think four disposable cameras would have been any problem though. In the end, I got lectured about how he's going to "respect" my $300 tourist allowance or whatever it's called and was let go.

Visit the Peninsula interior.

by euzkadi

I rented a car and visit some towns around, the road to Todos Santos and La Paz offers wonderfull views of the desert, the road is good and is a nice option if you want to see more than the typical touristic attractions of Cabo San Lucas. The vegetation is the common desert bushes with Cacti and other small trees called Chaparral, but there are 125 types of plant species only founded here.

There's one of those Mexican glass factories on the north (inland side) of the highway between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Prices are good, especially when you check the same items in the import market back home. Alaska Air supplied two good carry-on boxes for the trip home - worked well.

Cabo Wabo

by grkboiler about Cabo Wabo

This is the most publicized place in Cabo, and a great party spot in my opinion. To describe this place as wild would be an understatement. There is a crazy atmosphere every night, and people aged 18+ can enjoy it. Plenty of crazy things go on in there. It is amazing what alcohol can do to people.

The band and DJ are decent. It is usually pretty full by 10 PM, so it is a good idea to go around 9 if you want a good table (or a table at all).

Rock star Sammy Hagar is the owner and is there randomly and for special occasions planned throughout the year. Celebrities are frequently invited, along with famous bands and rock stars that play live on the stage. Sammy's birthday in October is usually jam packed, and New Year's Eve is another overcrowded night.

Overall, this is a good place to experience at least once when you come to Cabo. No dress code here. Anything can be worn in this place.

Some women choose to leave certain articles of their clothing on the floor or hanging from the bar, so I would recommend not bringing your kids here - which would also usually involve bribing the bouncer to let them in, but thats another issue. This is not a family place.
