The resort is not close to many other hotels. It was nice to look outside and not have views obstructed by tons of high rise buildings! It was a very quiet location! We stayed in a "Junior Suite." It had a large "main area", which was basically a mini living room with a queen size bed and a balcony overlooking the ocean. It also had a seperate bathroom and a seperate kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove, etc. The fridge is filled with stuff, and you get charged for those items you eat/drink. The best news is there is a grocery store right on the resort, just 30 feet from the resorts main entrance. Beers, sodas, water, and everything else were about half the cost in the grocery store. The bottled water especially came in handy...bring them down to the pool rather than spend $5 for a bottle at the pool bar. Attached to the grocery store, there is also an internet cafe where you can log onto the computer for a very good price. There is also a deli in the internet cafe, with great club sandwiches if you just want a quick, cheap lunch. The resort itself is beautiful. The pool areas were nice, lots of seating, and even a little water slide at one of the pools. The oceanviews were absolutely stunning. There are a few beach merchants along the Villa Del Palmar beachfront. The resort has the beach chairs behind a roped off area and the merchants are not allowed to come inside the roped area. They still stand on the other side though, and try to get your attention. When walking to the left of the resort, you will see no hotels, just a long stretch of deserted beach. To the right, you will see where the beach starts to get crowded. There are more hotels/beachfront restaurants this way. It is a bit of a walk, but its enjoyable. If you do not want to walk, there is a water taxi that comes right up on the beach, and for $2 a person, it will take you to the "happening" part of the beach. The resort was wonderful, and I would highly recommend the Villa Del Palmar to anyone visiting Cabo! I stayed here with a group of eight friends on a college Spring Break vacation in March 2006 and found the hotel to have a great value for the price we paid. We did not book the hotel directly through Villa del Palmar, but instead found two rooms that were rented from people owning time shares here. For 7 nights we paid $600 for one room and $800 for the other (although they were nearly identical rooms), split between 8 people making it a very inexpensive $25 per person per night. The rooms had one large bedroom with a king bed and an attached bathroom, another bathroom, and a kitchen/living room area where there was a pull out couch (double). The pull out couch was pretty small to sleep two guys on, but hey it was spring break. The kitchen had a large refridgerator, a stove, oven, and some cookware. This was nice because we were able to cook simple snacks/meals and keep our store bought beer cold! They cleaned the room everyday, which was much needed for us. None of us ate at the hotel restaurant, but we did eat some mediocre pizzas that they make down at the bar by the pool. I saw a wide variety of people staying at this hotel. At the time, almost all were Americans, but of all ages. There were families with kids, couples, and yes, some college springbreakers! It wasn't a total party scene though like you see at some places. If that's what you're looking for, it isn't that far away... The hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the center of town, or a 5 minute taxi ride. Most of the taxi's down there are large vans and they are great if you have a large group. I remember that the taxi fare was almost always exactly $7 or 70 pesos each way, no matter how many people were in the van! I saw some vans with at least 12 people! This is probably the preferred way to get to the downtown, but I did end up walking a few times and it wasn't bad. All in all I was very happy with the selection of this hotel. 2 thumbs up.
