Casa Bueno: Secure compound parking B&B
Casa Bueno will remind you of a true hacienda compound. The electronic gates open to a large courtyard tastefully landscaped. The trellis walk ways envite visitors to wander and meet other guests.
The host, Milton Sanders, seems to always have a smile and friendly word.
The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. The eclectic shower feature in our room had water coming from a number of directions.
Unique Quality: Large locked compound with high walls allows travelers to be able to safely park loaded trucks without worry. The large, but friendly dogs are constanly aware of anyone moving about the area and announce the presence of any new comer.
While we didn't try it, there is a good sized pool to cool off in.
Located on the extreme north end of the La Paz Malacon walking to the central area is doable, but probably not recommended in the heat of the sun.

Yukene Hotel: Hotel with an antique curiosity patio
We stayed here 2 nights. The patio is just amazing, and invites to sit and chat together with the other guests.
They offer the LOWEST FAIR TOUR IN TOWN to go and see the whales (650 pesos), for a WHOLE DAY that is.
We were glad to have stayed here but there is not much comfort in the rooms. No deals about the price are to be made with the owner, even if you overlooked the fact there wasnt any window in the room (we saw it too late, aarg aarg)
Unique Quality: The Patio is filled with loads and loads of stuff, from bottles, shelfs, to a jeep ridden by a stuffed monkey. Everybody entering this place, is surprised by the uniqueness and overwelming sight.
In the morning you can get coffee for free and at night a tequila (when the owner is in a good mood).
Wifi is available.
The rooms all have 2 beds, tv, bathroom with shower, but basic and dark.

Hotel NUEVO PEKIN: Like Being in Chinatown
While in La Paz this weekend, I had the afternoon to myself, so walked around and looked at a couple hotels and restaurants for VT. I had not realized that this wonderful Chinese restaurant is also a hotel! They have been at this location for 25 years! Difficult to resist the wonderful aromas when I looked at the room.
It is a very secure location and right on the Malecon. The room I was shown was bright and bigger than a lot I have been in here, with bath around a corner, which gives lots of privacy, also with dressing area there; TV and air-conditioned.
I was quoted only US$35.00!!! and just a little more for double.

Hotel Los Arcos (Avenida Alvaro Obregon 498 ): Normally, a Great Place to Stay
I have stayed here several times over the years and find it very suitable from all perspectives; price, facilities, location, personnel, atmosphere.
BUT, Los Arcos has been closed many months now, due to a labor dispute, so best to check carefully first, if you are coming to La Paz.

Hosteria Del Convento: Budget accomodation
The rooms are old and dark, and there is clutter at the end of the courtyard. A pity really ........with some new paint and proper lighting and a nice uncluttered courtyard this place could definitely attract more guests because it does have a central location.. We stayed just one night and moved to Pension California the following day.
Unique Quality: The dollar store is just across the street........snacks, drinks, stationery and misc. $1 items.

Nuevo Hotel Pekin: Right on the malecon
I entered La Paz with three criteria for a hotel; 1) it had to be near the malecon, 2) it had to be away from Americanos, 3) it had to have a balcony.. What I got was the Nuevo Hotel Pekin. There I was, a gringo in Mexico staying at a Chinese hotel.
This is a genuinely Chinese owned hotel with the new proprietors being immigrants from mainland China. They speak no english but some Spanish. The staff as well speak no english.Tthere is an upscale restaurant on the ground floor. Parking was on-street.
My room was on the second floor overlooking the bay. Though I didn't have a balcony, there was a wide ledge at window height for laying back and observing the view. The malecon never sleeps with a constant parade of excersizers. Some would catch me watching them and wave.
The accomadations are clean but basic. Not to be compared with the Los Arcos. The Nuevo Pekin is for those who are willing to sacrifice luxory for seperation from the tourist crowds.
Unique Quality: The layout is most unique with a central hallway with small offshoot pathways leading to your room. A series of short staiways leads to the roof where a treetop view of the surrounding area is enjoyed.
Though served by the staff, I met the owner the next morning. Their son was was a rambunctious four year. We enjoyed some conversation and pictures. What this hotel may lack is more then made up for in friendliness. The price was an outrageously low $35 and the location fantastic.

Las Cabanas de los Arcos: Lovely poolside cabanas
Great service and good accommodations in a cozy but very comfortable poolside cabana near the malecon (Paseo Obregon). Not "5-star spectacular" but very attractive.

Casa Puesta del Sol: Gorgeous house near the malecon
This is a three-bedroom house about three blocks north of the malecon. It is across the street from a marina and the upstairs balcony overlooks a cute restaurant where you can hear the mariachis on weekend nights. It was a wonderful home-away-from home for our weeklong stay there.
Unique Quality: This house is in a slightly upscale neighborhood. The street out front is paved, and is swept daily by this cute little dona who also waters the trees.
There are three quite adequate bedrooms, two bathrooms, cable TV (there's nothing like watching "Futurama" every night in Spanish), a large kitchen and is close to an adequate convenience store and a block away from a nice taquieria.

Hotel Junipero: We stayed at Hotel Junipero in...
We stayed at Hotel Junipero in Loreto, which is nothing special. We were lucky to have a room downstairs. We heard that there wasn't enough water pressure to get hot water in the upstairs rooms. The rooms have oil lamps for when the power goes out.
Unique Quality: We also camped at several different empty beaches along the route from Loreto to La Paz: Santa Martha, north of Los Dolores, Isla San Jose, San Francisco and Isla Espiritu Santo.
In La Paz we stayed at Hotel Los Arcos, which is a three or four star hotel with a pool, restaurant, bar, sauna and our favorite amenity, hot showers!
Our 10 day trip was $1195 USD per person, which included the hotels, all camping equipment, use of boats & snorkel equipment and all meals & drinks while camping.
