El Tiburon Casitas: Weekly/Monthly by the Harbor

I've not stayed here, but it seems to be a favorite of people coming down to spend more than just a few days. Rental costs by the week and month are quite reasonable.

Unique Quality: Located within walking distance of the entire Historic District of Loreto and only a couple blocks from the Port this is an ideal location for a fishing vacation.

Liz and Jack, the owners are great hosts

HOTEL ANGRA: Basic Accommodation

The hotel is just about 2 yrs old, so the largish rooms are all newish and good clean condition, good firm beds, air-conditioned---which is a MUST in summer, with temps hovering around 100F.

Unique Quality: We stayed here a second time October 2010, and again, the hosts are very friendly and helpful; and most important when driving with a car loaded down, is that they have a secure, inside lot for parking.

They have a continental breakfast available, as well as FREE WIFI connection!

JW Marriott: JW comes to Loreto Bay

I have not stayed yet as it's not built yet. The latest "BIG" news in town is that JW Marriott will be building a 200+ unit condo complex on the site of the old Whaler's Inn. The preview center is now open with schematics of the 6 non custom floor plans that will be available for rent and purchase.

Unique Quality: Large highly appointed condo's with all the amenities expected of a high end resort. A number of pools created for every age plus water slides for the kids (young and old).

Located on the shores of the Sea of Cortez, one of the most diverse sea life "aquariums" in the world.

Hotel Oasis: Beach Front Property

I have not stayed here yet, but have viewed the property and talked to a number of people that did stay; they had a great time. The price during August/September was quoted to be $150 per room for 2 people. This seems a bit on the high side but it is beach front property and has great accomodations so it can command the price.

Unique Quality: Not necessarily unique or outstanding but there is a heated swimming pool (might come in handy when the temperature drops below 80 in the winter), restaurant, bar, and parking.

Casa de Na: View of the Mission

I did not stay but I did visit and photograph the Casa de Na locate in the historic village of San Javier. This is the 2'nd oldest but may be the best origionaly preserved Mission located in "California."

Travel literature quotes the site as 5 rustic adobe bungalows overlooking the Mission of San Francisco Javier. This is ver evident from the photos below. the bungalows are at the entrance to the mission.

Unique Quality: Situated only 35 (give or take...) KM from Loreto, BCS, the trip is most of the "fun." If you don't like "gravel" roads, or tight turns, then this trip is perhaps not for you....Though my wife made it and she looks for the Dramamine with 1 meter swells. (sleep hepls too).

One word of warning...you do not go "to town" just for the evening; it is a multi hour experience. If you stay here, you are here to visit the mission, to hike in the desert or just happen to be passing through on your way to the Pacific.

This might be the cheapest place to stay without pitching a tent on the beach... about $35 a night (US).

Oasis Hotel: Affordable bayfront Accomodations

This hotel took me by surprise at every turn. First I discovered it while driving around frustrated at not finding the ideal accomodations in town. I had reservations but rejected that particular hotel upon entering the lobby. It's discovery was my first surprise.

The second surprise came at the price of $65 for a room which I find affordable considering the location. I upped that to $75 for a bayfront room. The rooms are large and can tough enough to survive the onslaught of sandy feet and wet clothes. Don't expect lush, thick carpets; this hotel is favored by the sport fishermen.

Another suprise came as I crossed paths with a family leaving the pool area. They must have had a great swim and were laughing and enjoying themselves so much. So the family orientation of the hotel was another welcomed surprise.

I further enjoyed the access to the malecon and beach area where a lone panga decorated the shoreline. The hotel and the beach are inseperable. They are attached and blend as one.

Unique Quality: A lot is packed into this hotel, including a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a bar, a pool, bayside and garden/poolside rooms.

To recommend this hotel is an understatement.

Hotel Quinta San Francisco: Central Malecon location overlooking the sea

Basic but clean accomodations. Nice bathrooms and comfortable beds. The A.C. kept the rooms cool and stepping out on the front patio you have a great sea view. Just a few minute walk brings you to downtown or you can partake in one of the nearby restaurants or just sit on a bench at sunset along the malecon and decide if you really need to go back h ome.

Unique Quality: This is a great place to stay but remember they have a small staff and work very hard to keep things great so be careful to leave this hidden gem just as you found it.

Hotel Oasis: Modest and accommodating beach resort

A nice hotel, not centrally located but only a short (~10 min) walk to downtown. Beautiful, tropical grounds with a great looking, well maintained pool area. The rooms are a bit spartan in appointments, but very clean and well maintained. The restaurant was good (not great) but with friendly service. Recommended. All the staff members I encountered spoke at least some English.

Unique Quality: I recommend spending the extra $10 USD for the beachfront room. The view of the beach is spectacular, and right out your front door! Also, the hotel is known for its fishing excursions. This hotel is therefore popular with fishermen.
