Festival Plaza Hotel: TRASHY ROACH MOTEL DISGUISED ONLINE
BEWARE OF THE HYPE! When we arrived, the hotel could be spotted from 2 miles away. When we entered the hotel lobby, we were plesantly suprised by the fashionable decor. It's when we began our check-in process that the problems began. The first person to assist us was an aggitated man behind the counter. We went through the usual check-in steps. When we got to the price of the room, it was way more expensive then we were quoted online. We explained this to the hotel clerk and he said "No it's not" and walked away. The female manager then came over to assist us. Again we explained and she told us basically the same thing but apologized for the mixup. Online we were quoted $57.00+ taxes per person with 3 of us traveling. However, they told us in the hotel $121.00 per night+taxes. If you've never been to Rosarito, this is unexceptable! It's not a resort town. It's created strictly for partying and shopping. The ocean water looks like all of Mexico's sewage is dumped in it and the beach is not sandy (more dirt like). Their pools were inoperative and the ferris wheel that they boast about did not work as well. There are no televisions, A/C, ceiling fans, or other amenities that you would expect to be in a room at that cost. The bathrooms were extremely small and grungy (I showered in flip flops). You cannot bring alcohol into your rooms and security stops to check all shopping bags. To add on, you have the annoyance of having to be checked for your wristband every time you enter the hotel. (If you're planning on getting lucky, you better hope the person is staying in the same hotel. Otherwise BYOB bring your own booty). Due to our "mishap" as the staff would've liked us to believe we ended up paying $111.00 for a one night stay to avoid cancellation fees. We checked in at 5:00pm and they wouldn't offer us the courtesy of a late checkout (although they claim that you're allotted a 24 hour stay) go figure! We stayed the rest of our trip at THE ROSARITO BEACH HOTEL. If you want comfort and class stay there!!
The colors of the hotel embody Mexican tradition.

Casa Gunderson: Baja beach front rental
Great beach front house right opposite a sweet beach break in Baja Malibu. It is a great place, very comfortable w/ thoughful appointments. They had everything. The finish in the bathrooms was clean, but different. Like the bathtubs were actually tiled rectangle containers. Very clean, but adapted to local building supplies... The rest of the place was beautiful.
Web address for the rental is: http://www.vrbo.com/86236
I also found this site with a good description and driving directions: http://frankisfresh.backpackit.com/pub/691610
Beach front. great morning, evening views, er, daytime too :P
The neighbor is a character. His front patio is falling down due to the surf/storm damage. He doesn't look like he'll be fixing it any time soon. He seems very nice. He IS a character, but like all humans, kindness breeds kindness...and this is true with this neighbor.

Rosarito condo: Had a great stay in a Beachfront Condo!
I had a great, romantic time with my husband in this beachfront condo and the people who rented it to us were so nice that I thought to add it in these tips!
The place was right on the beach and walking distance to all the restaurants and nightlife. It was a much better place to stay than those crowded hotels with all those young kids on spring break! Plus they had a security guard and gated parking which was key.

Rosarito Condo: Beautiful BEACHFRONT condo!
I stayed in a condo right near all the action, yet far enough that it was quiet and romantic for me and my husband. It was beach accessible which was key and also had a parking garage with a 24 hour guard which made it really easy and I felt safe the entire time. Much nicer than staying in one of those crappy hotels full of spring breakers! :-) Here's they're website.
