More about One And Only Palmilla

Pampered at Palmilla

by TripAdvisor Member SSZZ

We just returned from an Aug. 4-Aug. 11 most fabulously extravagant vacation at the One & Only Palmilla. It has all the charm of old Mexico with its lush surroundings, Mexican decor and architecture and the genuine warmth of its many, many employees. The room, a beachfront junior suite, had all you could ask for including a most amazing bathroom with Blue Agave fragranced lotions. What a treat!

Complimentary tequilla, bottled water, fresh fruit bowl and cocktail hour hors'doevres appear daily in addition to the twice-daily housekeeping services. To surprise us for our anniversary celebration, housekeeping decorated our bed with hearts comprised of individual flower petals as well as a bubble bath with floating hibiscus flowers. Both rooms were aglow with lit candles. This is the type of service that one can find at Palmilla!

Guests enjoying either of the two infinity pools can be seen wearing the complimentary Palmilla baseballs hats one finds upon check-in. Such fun!
You can also use the beach bag provided for your use. The pools were fabulous with amazing service from the pool butlers. We especially enjoyed the chocolate-covered ice cream treats!
Towels were plentiful and the view unsurpassed. Guests can also expect to see the many lizards and pelicans that wander about the water's edge.

The water view at Palmilla is worth the trip alone! It has beautiful shades of blue and as the water crashes along the rocky edges of the Baja, you find yourself captivated. Don't miss the view near the Library--it is the most dramatic! (The Library is also a great place to grab a free cup of coffee, iced tea or lemonade and delicious cookies--as well as books, dvds and cds.)

We dined most nights at Agua and found both the fresh fish and service wonderful. Dinner at Charlie Trotter's was good but not worth the additional cost and we preferred the Mexican flavor of Agua. We also enjoyed evening star-gazing from our room's large balcony and our evening walks around the beautifully lit, flower-lined pathways. However, there were always available golfcarts to drive you around the resort if you enjoyed one Margherita too many!

What more can I say? We loved being pampered at Palmilla and can't wait to return.

Paradise @ Palmilla

We spent an amazing week this August '04 at the One & Only Palmilla Resort. Pampering, beauty and luxury beyond belief!! What an incredible place! Exquisite surroundings, drop dead pool and unbelievable service. Bon bons and ice pops served at the infinity pool overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Evian spray, cool cloths and oxygen treatment at pool, along with a towel provided for every inch of your body comfort. Anniversary surprise awaited us in our room, that was organized by my son and 24hr butler. A candlelit room, bougainvilla petals spread everywhere, with two towels carved into swans on our bed. Beyond paradise, a real shangri-la. Counting the minutes till we return. Magnificient!!!!!

What you defenitely want to do...

by daBertl

What you defenitely want to do when you come to San Jose is visiting the local beaches. But, unless you are some kind of golf pro or mission fanatic I assume it was your intention anyway. Just catch a bus or drive to Costa Azul or Playa de Palmilla. very nice beaches with clean and fine sand, blue water and, that's the bad thing - very strong currents and a wild surf. Swimming is not only very dangerous but very difficult and therefore you should stay out of the wild sea. The current is so strong that even when you walk into the water only knee-high it will suck you in and makes it very very difficult for you to get out aigain. I know because was fighting against the surf for quite some time before I reaches safe land.

It is no wonder that this nirvana was chosen by discerning world travelers, celebrities and those in the know. The One & Only Palmilla resort has set a standard that would be impossible to match. Nothing has been overlooked, down to the seashells and smooth rocks that were in the bottom of the gourd husk that was used to dip my hands in during a luxurious manicure. The suites are exquisite-- thick, egg-shaped African marble tubs, casually elegant yet tastefully upholstered outdoor chaise bed for lounging, Nikon telescopes for star- and moon-gazing, Frette sheets and cotton-covered feather comforters and pillows (although there is a "pillow menu" for any of your needs-- whether it be Tempur Pedic, full body, allergen-free, soft, hard, you name it), plump Turkish bath sheets, stunning wood and hammered metal bedsteads, flat screen televisions, Bose CD/DVD player, comfortable and crisp waffle-weave robes, Blue Agave shampoo/conditioner/lotion/ soap (refilled daily).... I would run out of space trying to list it all. Suffice it to say that no expense is spared, and every thing is the be-all-and-end-all of taste. Absolutely impeccable service that begins as soon as you pull up to the circular driveway. The staff is waiting to greet you as if they knew you from way back when. A refreshing fruit ice confection is handed to you, along with a parasol to shade you from the sun as you make your way to the room, guided by your own personal butler (one of two, actually-- they are there to help you in AM/ PM shifts). There is no "front desk" shenanigans here. They simply ask your name ( then greet you as such every time) and you are whisked away. Once in the room, they explain all the amenities and services offered. There is also a leather-bound book on the gorgeous, carved desk for your perusal of all of the aforementioned amenities-- you can choose to order room service, book a spa appointment, request turn-down (which is a decadent treat every single night, especially when the delicious chocolate truffles are coupled with amazing flower art at the foot of the bed). JUST AMAZING is the only way to describe the experience. The Agua restaurant is delectable. Truly a tear-inducing culinary fest. The pools are beautiful, the ocean is very much enjoyed from the palapa huts furnished with thirsty, terrycloth covered lounges. The breeze caressing your skin as you sip a Pina Colada, whilst spritzing yourself with Evian atomizers and feasting on yucca chips with guacamole and salsa, is such a delight and a wonderful treat for de-stressing from life's troubles (which you quickly forget once you enter this Shangri La). The whole while I was there, my husband and I kept wondering about what it was going to be like in the deep flaming pits of Hades-- because that is surely one's fate after indulging in the wickedly sinful offerings of this resort (you simply feel AWFUL about being treated SO WELL!) . Everything is BEYOND lush, BEYOND perfect, BEYOND believable. The spa treatments are exemplary-- I had a massage in the privacy of my room, on the terrace overlooking the turqouise sea, a facial in a private garden cabana, a pedicure and manicure in the well-appointed salon (very private). And not to fret: you will be getting the most PROFESSIONAL services-- they are in comparison to any you'd receive in the States at a swanky, spendy salon. All of the staff is trained beyond your expectations. As a matter of fact, the ENTIRE experience will be beyond ANY expectation you may have had. I have traveled extensively and consider myself well-versed in the "better things in life"-- but I am here to tell that the One and Only Palmilla deserves it's name TENFOLD. There is no other-- accept no substitutes.

If you like golf and are visiting Cabo San Lucas, there are several courses that you should play. The top courses are Cabo del Sol, Cabo Real, Palmilla, and the new Eldorado Course. I am involved in developing what will be one of the top rated courses in Mexico which will be 45 miles north of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific next to the quaint town of Todos Santos. Mexico and specifically Todos Santos is a the Carmel of Baja. Cooler weather, beautiful agricultural, ample water, and artistic community. Unspoiled Charm is reminisent of Puerto Vallarta some 50 years ago.

My wife and I just returned from from our beautiful honeymoon at La Palmilla. Let me start off by saying that it was the most relaxing vacation that we have ever been on. Getting out of the Hummer that transported us from the airport and finding the staff wating for us with these popsicles that were out of this world, we knew we were in for a great stay. The service was top notch, they treat everyone as if they are a celebrity. The treats that they hand out pool side are fabulous, including the oxygen shots, and Evian spritz for your face on a hot day. You have your pick of two pools which are both terrific, we found ourselves going back and forth from both.
The gesture of the staff touching there heart and greeting you just makes you realize what kind of place Palmilla really is, it is like you are in heaven when you walk around the grounds. We dined at Agua which we loved, nice variety on the menu to choose from. The Mariachi band is a great touch as well.
Our room was also a great treat. A magnifacent view of the Sea of Cortez from wherever you were in the room. The daybed and telescope were a great touch on the spacious balcony that we had.
My wife and I have been saying ever since we came back, what a great job we did on picking La Palmilla for our honeymoon destination. We could not have imagined going anywhere else and getting treated the way that we did, and relaxing the way that we did. Can't wait to go back for our one year anniversary.
Thank You Palmilla!

Amazing!

Where do I begin. My wife and I just spent 5 nights at Palmilla from October 4 - 9. All of the reviews posted below are true, and then some. From the moment you arrive on the property, everything is taken care of. The service is second to none and you are made to feel like you are the only one at the resort.

The food is excellent at Agua and C's, and the accomodations are like none I have ever experienced.

If you are looking to for a place that your every need and want is attended to, this is the place. We will certainly be back!

Just returned

Just returned from 4 nights at Palmila. Read all the reviews before I left and also had considered Ventanas and Esperanza.

This resort is absolutely fantastic and heads above anything else in Mexico or for that matter most of the Caribbean. Service is among the best that I have had anywhere in the world. To give you an example. We were at the whirpool and an employee came by and without even asking stacked a pyramid of towels for us to use for when we got out. Drinks and food magically appear within minutes of ordering them.

The rooms are gorgeous. I have stayed at most of the Four Seasons and Ritz's in Mexico and the Caribbean and this place beatrs them all on most accounts.

Grounds are much more lush than anything else in Cabo. Went for dinner at Ventanas and found the grounds and atmosphere to be much colder and sterile. Dinner was overpriced and not all that great.

My only negatives at Palmilla were the variety of food. I would have liked broader menu choices at the restaraunts and at the pool. Qualiity was good not fantastic. Most of the drinks I would rate the same.

Also they could use pool floats and need to increse the temp of the adult pool.

As to pools, they are really pretty with great views, The chasies were great, best I've seen for comforts. Pool Butlers were always there to assist and serve. Leg wedges, sprtizes wate etc.

All in all a great place. I will be back. This has defintely set the new bar. It will be hard for any other property to beat this place.

What makes it even more mazing is that they have only been re-opened since Feb. Would agree with the reviewer who said that Four Seasons and Ritz are Marriotts compared to Palmilla.

Awwwwwwwwwesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Myhusband and I stayed at the One and Only Palmilla August 16 -23. It is the MOST wonderful resort, exceeding our expectations!!
Our room was a superior OF,#2219, room with the most spectatacular view I have ever seen-you see the view the moment you walk into your room!!! Luxurious bath, amenities, thick towels, robes, mini bar stocked to your preferences, daily snacks delivered in the late afternoon, chocolates daily with fresh fruit, excellent housekeeping, professional butlers. What more can I say-these are rooms you don't mind going back to........
The pool, gorgeous, clean, the pool butlers were incredible, adjusting the umbrellas constantly, bringing Evian, ice, drinks, towels, the minute you signal for something, there is a pool butler by your side. I ordered lunch at the pool every day-shrimp tacos, shrimp cocktail, enchiladas, great guac.
The view of the ocean is amazing!!!!!!!!!!Waves crashing on the rocks, spraying water...........
Loved Agua for dinner, ate breakfast every day at Charlie C's-
The spa is the MOST wonderful experience-try the frangipani wrap/massage and the couples Aztec Ritual-you won't be disappointed!!!
This resort and the service are first rate, worth every dollar!!!!!!!! Can't wait to return!!!!!!!!!!

This is THE place to stay!!!!!

My wife and I have just returned from our Honeymoon at the One and Only Palmilla, and i can not say enough about this resort, it is simply perfect.
Upon our arrival to perfect weather of course, we were greeted by someone at the entrance who took us on a brief tour of the entrance facilities and introduced us to our butler. Yes, you have a butler for your every need. He escorted us to our room which was a terrace jr. suite with a view to the ocean....amazing. The day bed on the terrace makes for some great afternoon siestas and are fully draped for privacy and dinner can be served on the terrace as well. Our room was beyond what we expected and we couldnt have been happier. There was an explanation of the room by our butler Hector, and other features and told us that whatever we needed he would take care of...and he certainly did. Before leaving, he informed us that the tequila was compliments of the hotel and to enjoy it along with some dry figs and almonds. A card was delivered to us moments later greeting us and welcoming us to the resort.
We headed off to the incredible pools and the beach everyday for some sun and just pure relaxation, and upon our return there was some cheese and other condiments for your enjoyment our our living room table. This happened every day! There truly is no reason to leave the resort. Our room was immaculately kept, cleaned every day, turned down every night, perfectly adorned with a gift left on the bed each night. Our robes, bottled water with a glass and chocolate was laid out bedside, our slippers on the floor next to the bed, and your choice of araomatherpy fill the room with its scent as music throught the bose surround system played some island exotic music, transporting you to a world mile and miles away. I swear that I did not use a towel twice and the bathroom was cleaned everyday, twice!!! The staff is polite, corteous and at your beckon call. The pool butlers are great as well. Everything is thier pleasure, even when you say thank you, it is always there pleasure. From ice cream, to popsicles, to sun glass cleaning, books, cd player, oxygen shots, evian sprayers, towels, bottled water with ice, neck pillows, leg support and a lounge chair that rivals some of the best beds out there, you are truly spoiled pool side. The ocean has hammock that are covered and the same service and lounging. Lunch was great by the pool, and dinner at the restuarants or in your room can be somewhat pricy but well worth it, the food compares to some of the best NYC restuarants....
The spa was incredible, i recommend the couples massage in the private villa, very nice, and go for the full 140 minutes...its worth it. The gym has great equipment and very new, water and towels are given out as well as headphones, fresh fruit and refreshing towels. These people make you feel like a movie star, even if you arent one, as some of the most famous in hollywood casually walk the resort. The worst part of our honeymoon was leaving, and they made us feel the need to return very soon by giving us a gift as we left. The One and Only is truly a one and only resort, and it will be very hard to go any place else after this....every where you go after will always be compare to this true paradise in Mexico. We are sure to return for our anniversary, or maybe sooner, it is worth every penny and is a must for anyone looking to be pampered...you will not be disappointed.

Can someone name the three best hotels and are they within walking distance of a village or is cabo a village unto itself--

RE: cabo san lucas

by YVRDave

Las Ventanas, The Palmilla, Villas del Mar, Esperanza
They are not that close to town but have shuttle options and taxis or rental cars are available

by sheilarae

Cabo San Lucas isn't really a town or a village. It is mainly a tourist area with resturants and shops. If you walk up the hill from all the tourist stuff, there is a small square. If you want a real town go to Cabo San Jose (where the airport is). The resorts mentioned in the 1st reply are between San Jose and San Lucas. A lot of people never leave their resort! There is a public bus that runs between the two towns.
