Rio Lacanja Campamento: Basic stay in great setting

I call it a campground, merely due to its rustic setting. It is not as sophisticated as a hotel, but it is not camping either.

There are several cabins to choose from, with slightly varied options. There are small cabins (1~2) persons along the river (see the photo). These cabins do not have any bathroom facilities, so you have to walk ~60m down the bath for toilets and showers.

If you don't choose to stay at this particular cabina, note that most in the Lacanja area offer the same style and level of amenities.

There are a couple cabins that do have toilet/shower, but these are interior to the jungle and not along the river.

They do have electricity and fans in some, but no air conditioning. Some cabins are open to the outside air, in which case they do provide mosquito netting over the beds.

There is a basic kitchen. Breakfasts consist of eggs and fruit. In the off season dinner may be quesadillas or spaghetti. During peak season, the menu is a bit larger, but still rather simple.

Camping Margarito: Closest to the ruins

This is the closest you can stay to the ruins of Bonampak. You can sleep in a tent or in a hammock. The price for hammock is 30 pesos (if you have your own).

Toillets and showers are OK.

There are some other accommodations further away in Lacanja Chansayab.

I was the only one staying there. No turists at all.
Had to wait for 2 hours, because the owner was away.
There is some kind of a restaurant, but bring some food with you.
