Museo del Ámbar de Chiapas - Amber Museum

I wish I had spent more time in this museum! But I only found the time at my last morning in San Cris and had to rush in order to catch my bus at noon.
The museo is absolutely worth visiting although the exhibition is rather small. I was a bit surprised to hear about amber found in Chiapas, far away from the sea, but I learned they find it in caves! And Chiapas Amber is wonderfully clear and comes in beautiful shades of yellow.
Also, the building is nice, it's an old convent, with lots of room for expansion. An iguana made of amber! And wonderful jewellery!

... to the Sumidero Canyon. This place is not to be missed! It's not really off the beaten path but it's worth it.
Around San Cristobal there are various travel agencies that take you on these trips in mini busses. Look around for a while to find the best offer!

I booked this tour at Tierra Maya paid 160 pesos on the 24th.
I had to be at c/ de Guadelupe no 24 at 8.50. We left 8.55 still picking up some people at Hotels (maybe they paid more or booked at there hotel?)
At 10.00 we were in the boat and at 12.00 we were back. It was very very nice. Wished i had a better camera for the monkey and birds :(.
12.30 we went to Chiapa de Corzo see next tip.

I arrived there with the bus, the market was so poor it was impossible to take a picture - do yo shot 2 oranges and a lemon with a old and poor woman waiting ?
I tasted there for the only time in my life a precolombian food - and saw a curious museum on slavery, fearuing dozen of names for dozen of different metis mixed with indian, black and white blood
It was 3 weeks before the Commandant Marcos started the rebellion
