Travel Tips for San Cristóbal de Las Casas

Many street vendors

by shdw100

Many of the street vendors come from the surrounding areas. They are essentially trying to sell anything they can to make some kind of money to support their families. A lot of time you will see the children with the mothers, which makes me heartbroken to see such innocent children having to sell items just to survive. If you see people, such as these in the picture, please be kind and help them out. What little money you give them could help to pay for a meal that night.

Zocalo

by shdw100

The zocalo is the definate hub of Mexican cities, and San Cristobal is no exception. You can see many different people from the various villages here, selling items or people playing music, reading, dancing, or anything else for that matter. The zocalo is the gathering place for society in Mexican culture, and the best place to people watch and see Mexico at it's best.

Chiapa de Corzo

by dila

I visite this with a tour. We went here after the Sumidero Canyon. Arrived at 12.30 and left 13.30.
I went to the church, to the Palacio Presidente Municipal. Took picture of the mural here and pictures of the balcony to the zocalo

San Cristobal de las Casas

by xpythias

Spent five days here after a month in guatemala. Not too many people accuse mexico of being clean, but after guatemala, this place is stellar. Its a modern, fairly large city with quaint streets and brightly colored buildings. Though I cant say I partook in it, there is a rather lively night life here as well. For those less adventurous, there are several movies houses showing good flicks in both english and spanish. There are also several good day trips from SC, though be prepared for some twisty roads.
