    Las Hadas HOTEL

I went to Las Hadas Hotel in Manzanillo in June of 2006 and it definetly has a romantic feel in the air. The hotel has all amenities so you don't have to take a pricy taxi to the bottom of the hill. Although, if you are in the mood for a little workout then you can walk from the hotel to Chipotle restaurant for a tasty breakfast. The pool is well kept with an iguana in the middle of the plant setting and the beach is tranquil and seems nice for families with small children.

Directions: ...keeping driving and winding the roads until you see the white cliffs....

Feeling adventurous, I took a company car and drove 5 hours from Leon, Guanajuato to Manzanillo. I arrived after dark so I was not prepared for the sight of the ground in the bright sunlight. Las Hadas looks like a Moorish palace with everything painted white to reflect the heat of the sun. If only they had been able to achieve the same effect with the volcanic action-created sand which will burn your bare feet. The food in the restaraunts was very good including the breakfast buffet and the seafood restaraunt for dinner. The room was comfortable and well appointed. I will definitely return.
The only caveat I would share is that there aren't many staff members that speak English. I did notice a couple Canadians that seemed to be having a tough time making themselves understood. Their impatience didn't help. A phrasebook, on the other hand, would have helped immensely.

Las Hadas 12/15-12/18/04

Our first trip to Las Hadas. We had read some negative reviews here and just want to throw in our two centavos. Las Hadas is a great piece of property. There are plenty of great employees. It is very clean and the food is good--not cheap in quality or price. The pools and beach are very nice and well kept. The rooms are nice. The place is old, but was well built and has the problems of any building that is exposed to salt air--the outside of some of the buildings are starting to show their age--metal things start to corrode and effect plumbing and ventilation systems.--small details in our judgement
I think that if one enjoys Mexico and their culture one will understand that Las Hadas is a good place to stay and a great family place. If you think you are going to a 5 star American hotel, and expect that type of service and facilities, you should vacation in the US and not venture to any place in Mexico. It is just different. Some enjoy that difference, and some do not.

Las Hadas - a little outdated...

by A TripAdvisor Member

We just returned (aug 2004) from Las Hadas and were very disappointed in the hotel. This once 5 star hotel is very outdated and needs a lot of improvements and 'updating'. The resort is still pretty to look at with the white decor, etc., but the rooms are old, moldy and the furniture is very dirty (of course being white doesn't help) but they should make an attempt to clean or maybe change the color. I didn't even want to sit on the sofa. We stayed in a suite and the sofa bed didn't have sheets. We had to request them twice. Also, the beds are very uncomfortable. There was no evening entertainment like they said there would be nor was there a 'kids club'. Their pool policy is a little ridiculous.. closes at 8 pm.. with nothing to do at the resort, they should at least leave it open later - we've been to many top resorts and their pools stay open very late. Also, if you have problems walking or with your legs, don't even attempt this resort. There are too many steep stairs up and down and not easily accessible for any kind of handicapped person.

Extreamly dissappointed with Las Hadas

by A TripAdvisor Member

Our recent visit to Manzanillo, Las Hadas Resort was more of a big dispointment than anything else. This property was without a doubt breath-taking and so very beautiful. What lied benieth the closed doors was a totally different story. This was a property that I had wanted to visit and stay at for many years. After trying to plan our most deserved vacation very carefully and taking into account that this was a vacation that was special to us we wanted to come to a resort that was as it was known and more importantly, advertised. We had done extensive research on the NET and our limited stay down to this resort and one other near by. We were so very dissappointed on our arrival of what we were first introduced to. The room was to be a Jr. Exe. Suite with an Ocean front view, which it was. The first impression we had was when the door was opened to our room, it "stunk" of sewer gases and was very musty. They obviously were not prepared for our arrival. They moved us to another room without too much problem but they did say at first they didn't have anything else. After insisting that we wanted to move we were moved to another room. However, it was not really set up and ready. The air conditioning(if you want to call it that) WAS NOT WORKING. It was absolutetly awful! We left the room for a few hrs., went to dinner and took our time out of the room. Upon our return after over 4 hours, the room was like that of a sauna. The room wasn't even totally finished for us. The phone was scratchy sounding, no alarm clock, no bedspread but most importantly, NO air conditioning. The air was running but it was not keeping up with the outdoor conditions. We had just moved from another hotel with NO problems of this sort. They tried to tell us at first that it was due to the ocean and the high humidity. Again, we never had the problem at the other resort. The only thing that kept us there was that the staff was trying their hardest to accomodate us. We literally moved to 3 rooms in one day in less than a 7 hr. period. We just wanted to go to sleep and possibly leave the next day. Everyone jumped to our every need to a DEGREE. The 3rd room was the room where we completed our stay. The air conditioning never was quite right but we just put up with it. The beds were very very hard and the pillows were like sandbags. The bathroom drains were very slow and water even came up in the floor drain when the bathtup was draining. I don't believe the room was quite ready for occupancy but it was better than the other previous 2 rooms. There were many nice people that listened to our complaints but keep in mind there were hardly any guests on the property. One of the restaurants was totally closed for renovation. The exclusive restaurant was only open days that we would not be able to attend so there was only ONE restaurant for evening dining open. THIS WAS NOT MENTIONED ON THEIR WEBSITE! We probably wouldn't have stayed having this information prior to making our reservations. The continental breakfast that was offered was very slim but they did credit us back the $ amount towards items off the regular breakfast menu. All in all, this so called 4 star Hotel needs a face lift in many ways. I think the icing on the cake was our last day there. They were preparing for their 30 year anniversary. They were working very hard to clean things up and do some repairs. Alot of white wash paint can cover a multitude of problems. We were taking in our last couple of hours next to the private pool which was part of our package. Things seemed to be quiet when all of a sudden we heard this sound that was reminisant of a gas lawn mower starting up but much louder. That wasn't the worst of it. They were spraying this insecticide that was disbursing in huge clouds of white smoke and smelled like a cominbination of what you'd think bug spray would smell like and mixed with a smell like that of kerosine. It was quite bad and it was billowing all over. To make it worse they were spraying it around the lunch hour. This in my opinion was very rude and for us the last straw. I don't care who or what they were preparing for, they could have sprayed at another time. We inquired about the spraying and were told that it was harmless to humans and animals. ?? Make your own conclusions. Again, there is no argument that this property is one of the most unique and most beautiful Hotels you would ever set your eyes on. Infact, we have traveled to many countries and live in the U.S. and have never seen a more gorgeous setting with breathtaking views. Would we stay there again, probably not unless they renivate the interiors. Would we recommend this Hotel to friends and family, not at this time.

Land of the Fairies, absolutely magical!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We did not plan on staying at Las Hadas. We booked and paid for the Karmina Palace. When we arrived at the Karmina they told us they did not have rooms and we were sent to Las Hadas (read review under Karmina). It was absolutely heaven. Peace and quiet from dusk to dawn. The sounds of fountains and surf while you sleep. Everything white and marble. Absolutely gorgeous architecture. Magnificent beach, calm waters, excellent for swimming. Beautiful pool but COLD!!! Wait staff was a little slow at times, great pizza. Wonderful room service. Legazpi (spelling) restaurant was right out of the movies, elegant, posh, and very tasty. Excellent service. I have been to Mexico over 20 times and this was my absolute favorite place to stay. If you want to get away to peace and quiet and stay in complete luxury with Manzanillos great weather, stay at Las Hadas (land of the fairies)!!!!

Hands down, pick the Royal Caribbean "Vision of the Seas. There is no comparison. If you wish to read remarks regarding the ships, go to select the ship you wish to read about and you will read reviews by actual cruise guests
