I did not have much opportunity to visit a lot of the sites in and around Durango as my time here was devoted to an eye clinic that we helped the local Lions Clubs run. The weather was a bit cold with huge thunderstorms - it was the first of many times that I have been to Mexico when the weather here was colder than what I had left behind in the northwestern US. I did visit the cathedral which evolved from the original parish church that was first built in 1685 - Durango was founded in 1563. The church became a cathedral in 1891. Opposite of the church is the main square of the city, a town of some half million.
