by ponchofm

I'll be in Guanajuato next week and I've booked three nights in this hostel and I'd like to know your comments about it. Thanks!

I havent stayed at the casa de dante, but i walked to it one time to find it for future reference. It looked nice. There were many stairsteps on the approach, so be prepared for a workout (good shoes or boots). The steeper the approach to a spot, the better the view. It would be cool if you could answer your own question for us after your experience. Gracias!

Travel Tips for Guanajuato

Time for the Visit - Two Full Days

by gdilieto

Guanajuato's is easy to navigate on foot and almost all attractions are located in the compact city center. I have spent in town two nights and one full day and had enough time to visit almost all the city attractions. By the way, two full days may be a better choice for those who want to take it a little easier. At least one night stay should be considered to enjoy the night view of the town from El Pipila Monument and dinner in one of the cozy plazuelas.

Day of the Epiphany

by jungles

January 6th is celebrated in Mexico as the day of the Epiphany; that is, the day when the three wise men arrived from the East to present their gifts to baby Jesus. In Guanajuato we saw a procession which began at the church of San Roque, headed down the main street of the town and ended at the Jesuit church La Campania. Local teenagers played the parts of the Wise Men and Mary and Joseph, who escorted an image (read dressed-up baby doll) of the baby Jesus through the town on the back of a truck. A marching band led the procession, and another one playing a completely different tune brought up the rear. Once they reached the inside of the church they kept on playing their own separate songs, which added to the already raucous festival atmosphere. Even the head priest joined in the fun, as you can see in the photo of him waving a sparkler overhead.

Hard to find, worth the looking for

by jonbarb709 about Chao Bella

Trying to find this place was the first problem. The winding streets, the backroad, the narrow alleys. I remember walking towards the College, and there it was. Its an old house converted into a restaurant with several rooms and only a couple of tables in each room.
The ambience is fantastic. The food was great, the service was excellent. Chcken, sauce was excellent.

La Valenciana Church (San Cayetano)

by jonbarb709

Built (1765-17880) by the owner of the nearby mine. The interior is unbelievable, acoustics are fantastic, and there are numerous carvings.
This area has several things are worth the trip up. Across the street from the church is a great restaurant La Casa del Conde de la Valenciana, there is also a couple of crafts shops in the area and there is a mine. One of the craft shops Ojo de Venado in the area also took Visa cards
This church and area is high above Guanajuato, there is a bus that goes to the area, and it is also the road the ceremist Capelo.
