Has anyone taken a bus from Mexico City to Acapulco? I'll be in Mexico City for 7 days so I'm considering a trip to the beach.

Buenas Dias Pedro!

Thanks for your tip! Is the bus stop in Acapulco close to the hotels and hostels?
I'm thinking about staying in a youth hostel but nobody gives info on how far it is from the hotels, beaches, et.c. Acapulco looks pretty spread out on the map.

Anyway, I'm longing for sunshine and beach! Some people say that Veracruz is a much better place (more Mexican and less Gringos!) but it seems further than Acapulco.

Mucias Gracias!

Pedrobec is a hustler. Keep your distance. Most of what's on his page here is stolen from other posters on other websites.

About your question: The preferred service to ACA from Mexico City is with bus company Estrella de Oro (www.estrelladeoro.com.mx). The company has its own terminal very close to the middle of the coastal road in the city - close to many hotels. It’s 2 city blocks from Bahia Santa Lucia. Other than Spring Break, ACA draws fewer American tourists than, say, Puerto Vallarta and Zihuatanejo and Oaxaca. It’s the principal destination for Mexicans on vacation. K3 is the only hostal I’m aware of in ACA, and it’s right across the street from Playa Condesa - which is considered one of the best beaches in ACA. Veracruz is a nice city to visit - but the beaches are contaminated (raw sewage and consistently high levels of bacteria). I like Veracruz a lot, though (but not as a place to swim).

Enjoy!

And here is the monument in memory of all the divers that lost their lives during their dive.
At the back you can see the famous Hotel once owned to Elvis and where the film 'Fun in Acapulco' was filmed.

If you enjoy fishing you will find some of the best Sailfishing around in Acapulco. Four of us went out and in less than two hours landed three Sails. The largest (which I caught, of course) measured 9'3' from the tip of his bill to the tip of his tail. Check with Mr. Froggy.

"Avoid #702 Condominios Camelia y Magnolia"

Wow - what a nightmare. Advertised as an upscale apt with maid to see to all your needs. Paid $150 a night for a little luxury.......(ha ha)
A grumpy old lady who walked in without knocking (every time) let us know in the 1st 5 minutes that she will not cook, nor deliver things to the pool, and for 2 weeks counted everything like we were thieves, instead of cleaning. The contract required us to tip her.
The apt is old, run down and cluttered with old stuff and a huge dead plant! No AC in living room and LOTS of other broken things. Very small old kitchen - difficult to move around in & 2 people cannot cook together, so you are all alone when you do any cooking. Not conducive to family fun or even partying.
We basically kept it clean ourselves (& bought our own TP, soaps - even new dish cloths) and made sure nothing was broken but still never got our damage deposit back.
The building is in a great spot, with very nice staff. Just stay in another owners apt - for less- we later discovered.

"Fishing in Acapulco"

Be certain your terms are all above board - before you board.
We had a great day out there, the captain even stopped for us to snorkle for a while (just ask). The fellow that snagged us to go offered much lower price than we ended up paying.....aaah Mexico
But it was worth it for the day
The only problem was at the end of the day the largest fish we caught was swiftly taken away without our knowledge, and then we were told it was the 'custom' there for the captain to keep the biggest one. Baloney.
So be sure you have agreed to who gets the fish at the end.

"Acapulco Bay"

Any where along the bay is nice - but one area is definately for partyers. A bus can be taken for 45 cents all along there, so it doesn't matter where you are. We felt very safe in that 'tourist' area. Lots of dining and shopping and music and you can walk from one end of the beach to the other. From people we spoke to, & what we saw, most places are condos, not hotels. Which is fine - you can have breakfast in and most maids will bring you drinks and lunch to the poolside (the other maids in our building were doing it) and you don't hear the traffic along the main road when at the beach areas.
