Gay acapulco?
by stevin
My friend and I visited Puerto Vallarta last year and had a blast.
Would like to visit somewhere else in Mexico.
Anyone think Acapulco is worth a visit?
We're looking for something less American touristy, with a nice Mexican vibe, not too pricey, but still safe and fun.
Thanks in advance.

Oh gosh! there is so much more else to see!!!
Pick your towel and grab your tooth brush and begin the travel! go either central or south of the Pacific, or try north. There are many mexican towns near the beach that have a very nice enviroment and there are a lot less crowded. You can always try Vallarta, but that one also has a touristy corridor, maybe you might feel interested in Nayarit, it has very pretty beaches with plenty sand to leave your unique footprint.. or maybe you end in the mayan caribbean near Majahual or Tulum town or the North of the Yucatan peninsula, who knows! maybe your next email is from Veracruz or La Paz!
Get yourself a map, throw a coin and let's see where it falls, if north, central or south! You might be surprised with some areas that are not really that awfully advertized, get your backpack, call your friend and explore widely!

Pst.. I really dont like Acapulco that much either for a visit, but sometimes you might need someone to tell you the good stuff, the right season or the right spots. Acapulco sounds a bit too crowded for me, but others might like it! It had its big boom back in the golden years. Not far from there you can find Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo or beaches like La Ropa or head to Huatulco, it plays a lot to what do you feel like doing, if beach, mountains, towns, desert, or jungle - low or high.
The smaller the town and less big tourist zones, the more affordable it becomes so it gives more extra$ to explore farther. A suggestion might be to look for smaller towns on the beach or near the beach, if you want some salty water. If not, try central plateau in Mexico as well, there are cities as San Luis Potosi where the city is not the good stuff, it's more in the Sierra as La Huasteca and the castle of Edward James in the middle of pretty Xilitla, as it is the big caves as Sotano de las Golondrinas, not far from it, it includes rivers and waterfalls as Tamul.
Good Luck!

Travel Tips for Acapulco

by bellagio
Visit La Quebrada to see the famous Acapulco cliff divers. They put on one show at 1pm in the afternoon, and then four more in the evening. It costs 12 pesos to watch them. Get there early and get to the lowest viewing level for the best views. A 'Beetle' taxi from the Hotel Zone should cost you 30 pesos to get there. At the end of the performance the divers gather on the steps and as you pass by give them a tip, around 10 to 20 pesos should suffice. Remember they do not get paid for diving.
For more photos and details of the diving please view my travelogue. The glorious weather, lovely warm sunshine. Sitting on the beach and watching the beautiful sunsets in the early evening.
Packing List
by Elena03
You need enough room for all your beach essentials! Ladies you definately need to two piece bikini!!! Everyone in Acapulco is out to show off what they got, so make sure you fit in with the rich and famous of Mexico vacationing in this touristy spot! You will witness a lovely sunset so definately take a camera! You may want to consider taking all your beach equipment to the beach...people who for some reason take ownership of certain spots charge you for the beach equipment.

The big yellow BUS While there are lots of busses on the Costera, the beachfront drive, the Yellow Bus says 'Acapulco' on the side, is very cheap (the driver will make change), and is air conditioned. It will take you all along from Old Acapulco (Caleta Beach) to past the Wal-Mart on the Bay! A GREAT Way to get back and forth --don't bother with taxis! The bus comes every 5-10 minutes!
Prepare to get Wet!
by iam1wthee
Shotover Jet is a thrilling high speed boat that goes through mangroves and finally into the lagoon which is where Tarzan was filmed. They make many 360 spins where you end up in the lap of the person next to you. You will not be dry, even when you are waiting on line you risk getting wet. The ride is about 45 min but you can ask them to take you on more.

*I've gone to Acapulco with buddies and also with someone special for a Romantic vacation.
I just plan different activities and change my mindset.
