More about The Grand Mayan Acapulco
Grand Mayan - Acapulco - Must See!
We just returned from a two week vacation at the Grand Mayan in Acapulco. We arrived on January 6th and unfortunately, had to return to Michigan on January 20th. The Grand Mayan is breath taking - especially if your room is on the ocean side.... not the golf course side. The room is very modern, spacious and even has a very small jacuzzi pool on the balcony. The gym and spa are awesome along with the Mondo restaurant. If you are into art decor, this is the place for you.
One the first day, we met a wonderful taxi driver named Angel Flores. He speaks perfect english, recommends nice restaurants (Linda Vista is a must), takes you where ever you want to go. He took us to Wal-Mart and pushed the cart and assisted us with all items that we needed. If he did not know where it was, he would ask an associate for assistance. He drives a yellow and white taxi so you need to walk to the very end of the drive (past blue and white taxis) for him to pick you up....he will be waiting patiently for you. Please contact me by e-mail for his e-mail and phone number.....He is truly an Angel!
The weather was perfect....90 degrees every day with very little clouds. We even had to hid from the sun on a few occasions. There is plenty to do at the Mayan with the activity staff or just on your own such as swimming or beach activities. Acapulco comes alive at night with all the clubs that open at 11:00 p.m....yes, 11:00 p.m. The Palladium is a must see.
We have visted the Mayan Palace in Acapulco eight times and will certainly be going back....
The grand Mayan was definatly a pleasure to stay. Rooms were large and comfortable. The facilities were amazing except for (1) the couch which smelled like body odor and (2) the slight mildew smell in the bedrooms. The food at the hotel was great, We highly recomend the Cafe Lago. Word of advice, the hotel Cab drivers try to take advantage as much as possible, use the yellow cabs outside the resort. On xmas the cab drivers wanted $50 - 60 for a ride to the city, we settled for $25 round trip from the yellow cab.
The Grand Mayan is Gorgeous
The Grand Mayan is absolutely gorgeous. The place is like a palace. There are numerous restaurants and bars. The grounds are beautiful and the beach is wide and long. Our 22 year old son and 18 year old daughter traveled with us during their January break from college. They loved the resort and especially enjoyed the large beach. We ate at the open air restaurants most days. The evening temperatures are warm enough that you do not need a jacket. It is helpful to know a little bit of spanish but not a requirement. We hired a taxi from the resort and took a trip to see the Cliff Divers and into town. We mostly stayed at the resort (it is very large). The security at the resort was very good and we always felt safe at the resort. There is not alot to do outside of the resort but if you are looking for a relaxing beach vacation this is the place to be. They have 360 days of sunshine a year. It's hard to beat those odds.
Beautiful Week at the Grand Mayan
My husband and I just returned from a week at the Grand Mayan. My parents are owners at the Mayan Palace but we were upgraded about a month before we arrived (no explanation given). I was very happy about that since the reviews of the Grand Mayan seem so much better than that of the Mayan Palace.
Our room(s) at the Grand Mayan were huge and very impressive. (we spent our ten year anniversary in a suite at The Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui last year and this room was just as nice, if not nicer). You could tell everything was new (marble countertops, "spa" bathroom, nice products, etc) and up-to-date. We were on the tenth floor facing the golf-course/mountains and had a nice large balcony with chairs, a table, and that "plunge pool" (since our balcony was always in the shade, it was a little chilly...) Although there was some construction going on below us, we could not hear it or see it from our room. Everything was clean and the service was great. I used the conceirge for restaurant reservations outside of the hotel and they were wonderful (spoke perfect English, knew all about the restaurants, and called us back with our confirmation).
The resort itself is very large (but manageable) with lots of shade by the pool and several bars and restaurants. We used the internet cafe in our building ($3 for a half hour) and had massages at the spa. The spa is huge with all of the amenities (and a little bit cheaper than here in the states) and my massage was good but not great. The food in the restaurants was also okay although my husband and I both found a few dishes we really liked. We avoided the evening buffets but had drinks a few times at "the Bar." (which is so pretty)
Overall, this was a much better experience than we anticipated and we are already planning a return trip with our kids. It is a great "resort" if you are looking to relax. Some might see its distance from town as a drawback but it was fine with us (although the taxis back and forth to dinner did get expensive.) Oh -- after the intital invitation to tour the property and have brunch, we were never contacted by the time share sales people again. Got lucky, I guess!
Grand Mayan & travel in Acapulco
I spent a week (Dec. 23-29, 2005)with family at the Grand Mayan as a result of my niece's RCI (Resorts Condiminium International)membership and upgrade. The facility contains something for nearly everyone. There is a spa and gym, restaurants, a clothing shop, a water park for children, and meandering pools by which to swim and sun. Or you can choose a grass-covered cabana or an umbrella on the beach under which to sit or sun. Staff will bring you drinks and food at any location. The area is beautifully landscaped and maintained. Every evening there is some entertainment. Staff are very friendly and many speak English.
Available on the beach are horseback riding, boogie boards, jet skis, etc.
We spent most of our time by the pools. They are higher than the beach and consequently one receives a breeze which feels good when temperatures are in the high 80's to low 90's. The lounges near the pool are in the sun and those across the sidewalk are under the coconut trees for filtered shade which was good for the 3-month old we had with us.
The rooms include a kitchenette and can accommodate 4-8 persons by utilizing the sofas. The facility is primarily family or couple oriented.
For travel to and from the airport and around the city, my sister had arranged with Cesar Olea Santos, whom she learned about in a review on this site. He is knowledgeable about the fine points of the city. He will accommodate your vacation needs - just let him know what you want to do. Because of the number of persons in our party, a second car was needed, Cesar arranged for Angel Flores G. to be our second driver. He is friendly and capably transported our family. Both Cesar and Angel speak English and have previously lived in United States and/or Canada. I would recommend either driver. Rates are reasonable. If you are planning a trip to Acapulco, email and I will provide email and phone numbers for the drivers.
We had a 2bd/2ba suite at the Grand Mayan from Dec 23-30. The rooms were spectacular. One had a large soaking tub, the other a whirlpool bath. Both had marble showers, double sink vanity and seperate toilet area. Our rooms had king beds and sitting area and the balcony was huge with a plunge pool in the corner.
The Beach was spectacular. It was very quiet. The sand was soft with no rocks. We had our own palapa everyday. The only bad thing was a group of 18 (i think NY'ers) came and paid the pool boy to give them 18 seat coushins a day. The 18 coushins was basically the whole lot at the Grand Mayan.
The pool is very long and clean.
The buffet (breakfast and lunch) was great. At lunch there was a salad bar that was incredible. The chefs at Lago were top notch with their creations.
Bakal was good for dinner.
If I were to go to Acapulco again I would stay at the Grand Mayan.
Just back and a great time
Well, we just got back from the Grand Mayan in ACA and it we all had a great time.
The trip started with Ismael Silva picking us up at the airport as promised. There was 4 in our party and Ismael was there waiting with a very nice conditioned SUV to take us all to the Grand Mayan with a short stop at the Super WalMart. I would highly recommend using his service and we will use him again when we return. He is very trust worthy and very dependable and always on time. I wouldn't use anyone else. Even on some spur of the moment trips into ACA, if he was busy he sent someone else and they were one time and helpful. His English is excellent and there was no problem communicating with him. (If you need his phone number and email address send me).
We own the Grand Master suite, 2 bedrooms with Kitchen and the room was just beautiful. When we checked in we asked for a ocean view but none were available so we had to settle for the 9th floor facing the golf course. At least technically we had a partial ocean view since we had the end room and from the cooling pool on our deck we could see a lot of the ocean...still would have preferred a full view.
The rooms were nice but the beds were hard as a rock. Too bad, that would be my only major complaint of the Mayan.
The food was good, not great but the atmosphere made up for some the lost quality.
Maid service was done twice a day, which is nice since some times mid day you would shower and go out and come back to turn down sheets, new towels and chocolate on the bed. The twice a day service was exceptional nice.
The place itself is quite impressive when you enter the area. You will have to see it yourself to get the full beauty of it. The staff was friendly and they was always scrubbing the pools, pillars, touch up painting and generally keeping it well maintained visually....made me think of disneyland, how they keep the place nice and neat.
As a grand mayan member you have access to the water park, kayaks and paddleboats for free. We used the waterpark every day, I don't think we would have used it as much if we had to pay to get in.
Overall the Grand Mayan is a nice resort to stay.
Nice'n Warm Vacation
We returned from the Grand Mayan Palace about 2 weeks ago, the weather was great, about 85 to 88 degrees. Our room was ocean front on the 8th floor. The view was gorgeous. We spend time at the pool everyday and several time had lunch by the pool grill which was very good. The lunches were in line price wise however, it hurt me to pay $7.00 for a beer and $3.20 for a coke. But again the view was great........
When it comes to using a taxi, definitely call Angel Flores at -------- He drives a yellow & white Taxi. His prices are very reasonable and he will take you anywhere you want. Very trust worthy, always on time, will give you tour, suggest places to eat, etc. He was GREAT........
Well back home and back to work, but definitely a great place to vacation....
My wife and I stayed a week at the Grand Mayan. We made arrangements before geting there to have Ismael Silva pick us up at the airport. As promised he was waiting for us at the exit. He is very dependable, helpful and reasonable. I highly recommend using his services while in Acapulco. One day he took me on a tour of the city, and it was very interesting. He also took us to Wal-Mart, which is about five minutes from the hotel. We found out later that there is a Costco just down the road as well.
The hotel is awesome. The Grand Mayan is the place to stay. The service was excellent. The facilities are top-notch, and the weather was perfect. It's a great place for couples, as well as being a great place to bring the whole family. The pool is huge. The water is a tad cool, but you get used to it. The ocean is much warmer, but the surf is kind of rough. It would not be the best place for little ones to swim. As for the food, the restaurants on the property were better than average. Our favorite off-site resturant was Linda Vista. Great view, and the food was terrific. Try the surf and turf, and the lobster as well. We went there twice. Bella Vista was good, but not great, although the view was pretty nice. Su Casa was also fairly good, but, for me, it seemed a bit over-rated. The people in Acapulco were uniformly friendly and helpful. All in all, a wonderful vacation at great facilty. No question, we will return. Next time we'll take the kids.
Loved the Mayan Palace
Truely a piece of paradise. Six of us spent a week at the Mayan Palace in Acapulco. We were absolutely treated like royalty. Everyone especially the crew at the Snack/Pool Bar on the Beach were so gracious to us. When we left to return home we felt as though we were leaving family behind. We are already planning a trip for next year again to this resort.
We found the best tour guide/taxi driver in Ismael Silva. He was extremely helpful in planning our tours as well as giving us suggestions as to where to go & what to see. He would make our dinner reservations ahead for us & was well known by all the local people & very well respected by all. He speaks very fluent english. He completed our vacation. We will contact Ismael again when we return to Acapulco as his service was exceptional above the rest that we used. If I can be of any assistance to anyone that will be going to this resort please feel free to contact me. This was by far one of my best vacations ever. Can't wait until next year.

Only a couple more hours to go
I have been trying to decide which hotel to stay at in Acapulco. It has come down to either the Grand Mayan or the Mayan Palace. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
