There is a guide on the wall that explains what the price is. The rates are broken into zones so it depends on the zone you are going to. Each hotel is listed in each zone.

Taxi's at the airport in ACA are, I believe, under local municipal control and not federal control. There's a strong union that restricts who can and can't enter airport grounds driving a taxi, though.

Fares are totally negotiable in ACA from what I know of the situation, and there's no system such as exists in Mexico City where there are zones (if there is I think it's completely ignored). You're at the mercy of taxi drivers because they don't have meters in the cars. The way I go from the airport into town is to take one of the collectivo vans/taxi's. They're the only authorized service of the kind in ACA. Cost from the airport to your destination is MX$75 (approx. US$7.50). Taxi fares will be at least double.

I forgot to mention: if you opt to use the shuttle service you'll see a counter just outside the door to the airport where you pre-pay. Don't be confused by various "touts" seeking to lure to other forms of transportation. You'll be directed to the staging area for the vehicles, which is about 20 feet from where you purchase the ticket.

Travel Tips for Acapulco

You must enjoy the wonderful people! I had never seen this type of hospitality in my life! Everyone was very gracious and caring! I could stand on my balcony for ever just mesmerized by the wonderful view!

Aircraft carriers

by ephobius

See aircraft carriers that sometimes anchor here. If you are lucky enough there will be one of those huge ships in the bay. Or at least the coast guard ships or any other navy boats. And almost always you will find cruise ships full of happy tourists.

A Traditional restaurant in Acapulco

by Laura_Mexico about El Amigo Miguel

This is a very traditional and well known place in Acapulco: most of the locals will recommend it to the tourists as one of the most famous restaurants in town. They have 3 different spots where you can enjoy their cuisine.

All of the 3 restaurants are located near downtown, they all have a quite Mexican environment and a nice attention & quality of the food. The original one is right in downtown, a block or two away from the main square (zocalo); in order to get there, you must follow the Costera Avenue past the main square, then turn right in the first street you find and then left (again, in the first street you find). You'll see a neon advertisement on a blue building, but they have another facility right across the street, which is more cozy and has a better appearance (red/white tableclothes and wooden chairs).

The third facility is located right on the Costera Avenue past the Papagayo Park (east-west direction), right across the street from a couple of big supermarkets: Bodega Aurrera and Bodega Gigante. Try the Special Fish (that used to be its name at least: this last time I found it in the menu as Filete Miguel), which is stuffed with sea fruits and covered with a slightly hot creamy sauce... The "Pulpo enamorado" (meaning "Octopus in love"....!?) is also great -- it's an octopus cocktail prepared with mayonnaise, tomato and celery, really yummy! They have a lot of good stuff there besides these things, anyway.

Prices pretty acceptable, service is fast, place is clean. Just watch out what time you get there: the facility on the Costera Ave. is closed at 8 PM and the other 2 are closed at 9 PM everyday. Not suitable for people who like late dinners, such as myself!

An interesting tip: this place has very low prices when it comes to regular fish, but when it comes to seafood cocktails (shrimps, octopus, etc.) they are somewhat high, so keep it in mind when you order... you can have a big dish of fish with salad for less $$ than what it would cost you a small plate of octopus cocktail... weird!

Again, like what you should always do while in Mexico, first bargain for the price, even if you think you shouldnt, we paid about a 2 for 1 price for our parasailing adventure, there wasnt a lot of tourists so business was slow, take advantage of it! Parasailing is one activity you should do while in Acapulco. Its not scary at all, you take off from the beach and land on the beach. You'll enjoy a birds eye view of Acapulco! Once you're up there you'll think why didnt I do this before? TRY IT! TRUST ME ITS NOT SCARY!

Bonito Acapulco

by Arial_27

I've been to Acapulco a couple times since I've been living in Mexico City, once during a very high season and another during a less-crowded time. Its a beautiful beach resort area with surrounding mountains. It is known for its lagoon- type shape, and nightlife. Its a great place to visit with friends and I saw lots of families down here too.
