More about NH Krystal Ixtapa
Krystal Ixtapa April 2004
by TripAdvisor Member TravelLadySt_Paul
We stayed at the Krystal Hotel April 2nd - April 10th, 2004. This was our first time in Ixapa after going to Playa Del Carmen for the past three years so naturally we had something to compare it with. Overall Ixtapa has beautiful beaches and close restaurants and shops to walk to.When we walked into our hotel room we were pretty disappointed how run down and plain it was. It was barely a 3 star in my opinion. We did get on the top floor with a beautiful view so that was about the only good thing about it. The bathroom look like it from the sixties. Since this was our fouth time to Mexico I know all beds are hard so I always bring along a foam mattress top which rolls up nicely in a suitcase. I highly suggest this since the beds and pillows are very hard. I also bring along a small fleece blanket to put on top of the pillows. The biggest complaint that we had and the main reason we will not go back is the noise factor. We have never stayed in such a noisy hotel. The hotel is designed in a v shape so there is a big empty space that runs from the bottom floor to the top floor which creates a big echo chamber so every noise is 100 times louder. Also for two nights they had weddings outside and the music played until 2:00am. Also every night in the lobby the hotel has a band playing until 12 Midnight and every single note seemed like it was in our room. We even had ear plugs and they didn't help. I heard so many guests complaining over our weeks stay about the loud music and not sleeping or their children being unable to.
Great family fun at the Krystal.

My family and I just enjoyed 4 days at the NH Krystal Ixtapa and loved it!! The rooms were clean and inviting - all of them had beautiful ocean front rooms with spectacular views. The hotel staff was friendly and many of them spoke English. The staff was very accommodating and went out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. We especially enjoyed the large swimming pool with daily activities for adults and children. There are also plenty of beach activities to enjoy. And, don't forget to try the breakfast buffet, which is full of delicious food at a reasonable price. For some advice, remember to take your own pillows, as Mexican hotels tend to use very hard pillows. There is plenty of shopping within walking distance and you can also take a 5 minute taxi ride to nearby Zihuatanejo for food and shopping. The weather was very warm and humid, but we didn't seem to mind as we were in such a beautiful and tropical place. My family has been to Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan, and Ixtapa was definitely not as crowded and much more relaxing. Overall, we had a wonderful time and plan on visiting Ixtapa and the NH Krystal again in the near future.
Nice Hotel, but not worth the $$$

We stayed in the Krystal Ixtapa Last summer for about a week with an all-inclusive package. We had a pretty good time there enjoying the bueatiful scenery and wonderful beach located in the middle of the bay. The hotel building was designed in a V-shape giving everyone an ocean veiw, the only problem with this was that was that the center of the hotel was open aired, allowing the loud noise from the live band in the lobby to come up to the rooms. During our stay, we got very little sleep becase of the loud noise from the lobby.
Overall, the staff working at the hotel seemed to be very helpful. no matter what happened, they seemed to have a smile on their face.
The food was pretty good. the breakfast buffet in our in our package included many types of pastries, fruits, juices, etc. the best part was the staff member cooking personalized egg orders. Dinner and lunch were pretty repetitive meals, we had the same thing everyday. It was either fish or steak.
The recreational facilities at the hotel weren't that good. the tennis courts were delapitated and the gardens were a descrace, and the socalled hammack lounge consisted of only 2 hammocks.
Overall, our stay at the hotel wasn't that bad, one tip i will give you is DO NOT EAT ANYWEAR OUTSIDE THE HOTEL!! THE FOOD OUSIDE THE HOTEL WAS DIRTY AND GOT US SICK!!
We must just go @ the right time

We've been going to Krystal Ixtapa for over 8 yrs, ever since Cancun turned into Ft. Lauderdale - Mexican style and we have never had a bad experience. We arrive the week before Thanksgiving and leave the week end after. We meet up w/ the friends we've made over the past years, hang out at the pool and totally enjoy ourselves.
The families who bring their children haven't been a problem either; with the exception of the one we saved from drowning - We usually go over to Francesco's & Carolines for dinner - Solida's ( across the street) and have many times closed the restaurant - literally. The band in the lobby, when they are there, plays the same songs over & over, but again, maybe it's the time that we chose to go - it's pretty quiet. Our rooms have always been very clean and comfortable. The elevator is rather slow - can usually due the stairs a lot faster. Towels have never been a problem, nor has a lounge chair - Sorry, but I haven't had a bad time. We'll be leaving to go there on 11/19 - hopefully my run of luck won't end. Also try Villa de la Selva for dinner. The food it absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere breath-taking. Adios !

We picked the Krystal Hotel in Ixtapa randomly. We were very pleased with our choice. The rooms were clean and all had ocean views. The air-conditioning worked GREAT. We went during a slow week (Late April) and found the staff to be very pleasant. You should know that the waves on Ixtapa beach are largest at the central hotels like Krystal, and smaller at the peripheral hotels. My family loved the large waves at the Krystal and used boogie boards all day long. The beach has clean, fine sand. 3 minor complaints... The pillows are quite hard (bring your own), the fitness center is just weights and universal equipment (no aerobic equipment), and the tennis courts were "under repair". The staff says that the later 2 issues are being addressed this year. Walking distance to a variety of good restaurants and small stores for water or snacks. We did not drink the tap water but ate at the hotels and larger restaurants without any problems. If you're looking for a dinner with an American crowd, lively music and good food, try "Franks".
Average Hotel

We've been going to Mexico for 12 years. 4 of those were spent in Ixtapa. We go for two weeks and the last two years we stayed at the Krystal. Next year we'll be staying at a different hotel. The rooms we had both years had a strong odor of mildew. Two years ago we were put in a room on the air conditioner side of the hotel. We asked to be moved and luckily they were able to accomodate us. The air conditioning unit is so loud you have to keep the door closed and it still kept us awake. The breakfast buffet is over priced. We don't go all inclusive. I don't know why anyone would do that in Ixtapa with all the wonderful restaurants just across the street. The room was relatively clean but not as well as some of the other hotels we've stayed in. The beds were very uncomfortable. But the staff is very friendly and helpful.
A Wanna Be Resort

In all the places that I have visited around the world this is undoubted the worst managed resort I have visited. Since what I would write would violate the TOS of this site I will strongly suggest that you find another property on which to base your stay. Furthermore Christine's is not a club I would recommend that anyone visit under any circumstances.
very nice hotel

I am not sure why some have had problems with this hotel. We went for a week the first week in Sept. It is off-season so the hotel was very quiet but the staff was very good, the grounds were beautiful, and our room was very nice. The food at the hotel is very expensive, so do eat across the street. This is Mexico, but this was one of the nicer hotels in Ixtapa. and we had a wonderful relaxing time at the Kystal.
