Snorkelling at Ixtapa Island
by toontown
One day we took a bus down to the marina north of the Ixtapa hotel zone and then a quick ferry (just a small boat) over the Ixtapa Island. There was a small cove on the west side of the island, where the water was warm, the beer cold and some decent snorkeling. It was nice and deep, getting cut on coral was not really a concern, but lots of interesting trenches and marine life to look at below. There were several beach cafes all vying for our business, for both drinks and fin and snorkel rental.
Ixtapa - Zihuatenejo

"Pacific Resort Town"
I've visited Ixtapa - Zihuatenejo a number of time in the past 15 years and have watched it go from "sleepy fishing town" to a major tourist destination. Despite the expansion, the area still manages to keep conjestion down and, when you stay at one of the many vacation resorts in the area, it feels a little bit more relaxed. Try to avoid spring break -- even though the weather is truly idea in the Spring -- as well as the classic spring break haunts. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars -- other than Carols and Charlies or Senor Frog's!
One Crazy Week

Ixtapa is a great city, where there's a nice beach, very friendly people and lots of clubs thst are just a short walk away. When I came here with three of my friends, I got a whole new meaning of "living the lazy life" and it was great for a week.
What I'll miss the most is that everyone that's on vacation is basically there to have a good time, so it's smiles all around and everyone is very talkative and friendly. The GOs usually are very nice and make a good job of keeping entertainment going all day and all night.
