 | Guadalajara Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 24 | | Not so tourist friendly with the front desk staff clueless and not helpful when I tried to book the tequila express. But the real draw back it is not close to anything - this is not a walking around the city hotel for sure. For that you are better off staying in one of Guadalajara's many small B and Bs
This place is locate on top of a green hill, with the most extraordinary view of the city, and it is very close to the International to Airport of Guadalajara. The Hotel has a very characteristic style, with cobblestone streets, abundance of beautiful gardens and comfortable buildings in the Mexican colonial style. Lots of Birds with swallows darting in and out of the roof overhang. Leave a Comment

We walked from the train station to the Hotel Nuevo Galicia and booked a room. I believe that we booked reservations from the USA during the holiday season, but reservations are probably not needed at other times of the year. Recently I found a website where booking can be done, but it seems that making the phone call would be easier. The hotel was also within walking distance of the mercado and central plaza area. We had a television set, a decent shower, and a couple of large beds on which the four of us slept. The view from our room was quite good as the photos show. We didn't eat in the hotel dining area although I know it has one. This was a budget hotel chosen simply as a place to lay our head between daytime adventures.
Close to central plaza and mercados, as well as to the train station. Easy taxi ride to the central bus terminal. Great view of Guadalajara and surrounding mountains from this seven story building. Leave a Comment

We recently visited Guadalajara and our question was where to stay! We decided to book in the Posada Guadalajara or Hotel las Pergolas, both average hotels with a rate around 70-80 usd.. might sound expensive but i found them convienient for a mexican because I know this two places for years. Posada Guadalajara is very easy to get there for me from the Autopista or from the airport and Las Pergolas y more because it was my dad used to stay for business. I found them confortable, they are not super max hotels but they are decent options. One suggestion is that Guadalajara has pros and cons, so keep always an eye of all your valuable belonging, cameras, etcs.. it's all about a big city and there's all kind of people there, so just keep an eye to where you put your stuff all the time.
Both hotels have pool, not so complicated to get there, etc.. If you want to use your travel hotel points, this is it, you can also find big brands as hilton, best western, holiday inn.. etc.. all of them not so difficult to find, they are big buildings with biiiiiggg sings.. Leave a Comment

This was where I stayed for the 6 months I was in Guadalajara. Rent was $5000 pesos a month, split between two people, and was relatively central.

I've stayed at this hotel several times while visiting Guadalajara. It's fairly clean, although be aware, you might see some roaches! But this seems to be the norm for Mexico, as our other hotel also had some, and it wasn't a cheap one! It appears the Best Westerns that are out of the US, do not have the same level of quality. Anyhow, we stayed there during August, which is when the hotel is most booked, so stay clear during that time, or risk paying more.
What I like best of this hotel is that it's right smack in down town, and within walking distance to several good restaurants and stores. Great for people that want something decent, and want to be in the middle of a busy city.

I stayed at Hostel Guadalajara for three nights in January 2008. I booked through the Hosteling International website, paid a deposit online and showed up at the hostel... only to find they didn't have any record of my reservation. I pulled up my laptop (they have free wireless) and showed them my reservation. Somehow, they found me a place. I was in a room with four bunk beds, sleeping eight girls. The room was clean and most of the people in the hostel were like me- students looking for apartments before their terms abroad. The hostel organized entertainment and activities, such as trips to Tequila (I didn't go, but I hear they cram fifteen people into a van, with most sitting without seatbelts in the back) and Mexican wrestling. I notice the website says that they offer free cultural events daily, where guests can meet and greet local artists, but that was never offered or advertised during my stay. Inside the hostel, you had access to a full, shared kitchen, lots of space to hang out and chat, and a book exchange. The shared bathrooms were fairly clean, but the hot water missed more than it hit. Most of the time there was no hot water and the staff blamed it on having run out of gas. Once you get over the disorganization, Hostel Guadalajara is a pretty good place to stay. Dorm beds currently cost about 130 pesos per night ($12.50 USD) and I believe there are one or two private rooms available at a higher cost. If you decide to stay at this hostel, make sure to check out the nearby Bar Maestranza (on the same street). It's a total dive, but the cheap food and drinks and cool bullfighting memorabilia make for a pretty cool evening. Leave a Comment

This is one of the places I checked while looking for a place to stay. And I would have stayed here they had free beds. It's so damn cheap. Only 50 pesos per person per night. I haven't seen the rooms, for that price I wouldn't care too much. Couldn't expect too much comfort or luxury, but a place to take a shower and a stay for the night. And if the place was full, it can't be that bad.
