WHAT DOES IT MEAN THE MEXICAN FLAG?
by SerSol
The emblem-shield symbolizes the Aztec heritage. According to a beautiful legend, the gods had advised the Aztecs that the place where they should establish their city was to be identified when they saw an eagle, perched on a prickly pear tree, devouring a serpent. They saw this mythical eagle on a marshy lake that is now the z?calo or main plaza in Mexico City. Did you know it ?

On the weekends you can find not only great tiendas and markets open, you can also find smaller areas where people are selling everything from old antique books, to art, to the shirts off their backs! (I swear, it happened!!-didn't end up buying it though...;))
Historic Guadalajara

"A wonderful place"
On our first trip to Guadalajara we were well pleased. The city was huge! Our hotel was in the historic aresa. The Hotel Morales, a great find. We could not have been happier. The staff was friendly and helpful The concierge spoke wonderful english, and the hotel was beautiful. Our room was $80 dollars a night and well worth it. The restaurant was quite good as well. Our only issue was there was no refrigerator, but many non US hotels are that way. We Americans are spoiled that way.
The downtown area is a great place to walk and shop and see the history. There are many fine restuarants and museums and cathedrals to spend your day with. THere is a huge street market nearby, in the plaza of the Mariachis. You may get to see some Mariachis or not , you will have to ask when they perform. I have seen them by the dozens but I missed the play times.
"A park in the center of the historic area."
This is pretty much the center of the historic district. From here you can walk to many great places. In the summer it gets a little hot so a cab might be a good idea. Just weigh haw much traffic there is and decide if you can walk or ride.
"Neaby Lake Chapala"
Another historic city worth seeing. A huge lake with many private houses. There is also a resort area with plenty of good restaurants and shops. It is a good day trip from Guadalajara. Or you can stay in one of the few hotels there.
