in Tonala: Hotel Hacienda Del Sol

Tonalá - front entrance

great hotel
I have stayed in this hotel several times since they opened, there have been many changes in the hotel, new air conditioning system, and they are installing the new elevator. We go to this hotel because they have a closed indoor parking, and all the merchandise that you purchase you can have it deliverd to the hotel so you don´t have to carry it with you , and they store it in the large patio, with separate storage spaces, that they have ( free of charge) , used for all the merchandise delivered.
at night time we went to a little mountain called el cerrito de la reina, it´s the highest point from where you can see the entire view from guadalajara.

Hostel Guadalajara: Hosteling International - Guadalajara

I stayed at Hostel Guadalajara for three nights in January 2008. I booked through the Hosteling International website, paid a deposit online and showed up at the hostel... only to find they didn't have any record of my reservation. I pulled up my laptop (they have free wireless) and showed them my reservation. Somehow, they found me a place. I was in a room with four bunk beds, sleeping eight girls. The room was clean and most of the people in the hostel were like me- students looking for apartments before their terms abroad.

The hostel organized entertainment and activities, such as trips to Tequila (I didn't go, but I hear they cram fifteen people into a van, with most sitting without seatbelts in the back) and Mexican wrestling. I notice the website says that they offer free cultural events daily, where guests can meet and greet local artists, but that was never offered or advertised during my stay. Inside the hostel, you had access to a full, shared kitchen, lots of space to hang out and chat, and a book exchange. The shared bathrooms were fairly clean, but the hot water missed more than it hit. Most of the time there was no hot water and the staff blamed it on having run out of gas.

Once you get over the disorganization, Hostel Guadalajara is a pretty good place to stay. Dorm beds currently cost about 130 pesos per night ($12.50 USD) and I believe there are one or two private rooms available at a higher cost.

If you decide to stay at this hostel, make sure to check out the nearby Bar Maestranza (on the same street). It's a total dive, but the cheap food and drinks and cool bullfighting memorabilia make for a pretty cool evening.

Rio Caliente: Rest and Relaxation

We came to Guadalajara to visit the Rio Caliente spa. A nature retreat and spa that is the perfect relaxation vacation. Hiking, yoga, water exercises, horseback riding and swimming in the thermal pools are all available. In addition, feel free to enjoy a variety of spa services. My friend and I chose the 5 night package that came with accomodations, all meals (vegetarian), 1 mudwrap, 1 facial, and 1 massage. Feel free to be active, or just relax with a book. All guests are advised of the activities available, and then you decide what you want to participate in. It is your vacation to do with as you please. Most guests were return visitors, as I am sure I will be.

Guests were primarily women, but men are certainly welcome. Shopping/day trips are also available for a small fee.

Unique Quality: Thermal hot springs

Quinta Don Jose Boutique Hotel: A good option to large Guadalajara Hotels

I just can't say enough about how wonderful this place is. I've stayed in many Bed & Breakfasts and many hotels, several in Guadalajara, but this one is the best in all of Guadalajara. The breakfast is excellent. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The staff is so friendly and eager to please.

If you are not accustomed to Bed & Breakfasts, I recommend the pool suites as they are far enough from the main dining area. We stayed in the master suite right next to the dining area and never heard a thing, but if there had been any screaming kids we might have heard them. I only include this comment because some people are very noise-sensitive.

Just 2 blocks from the main plaza of Tlaquepaque and a 15 minutes bus ride (at 4 pesos!!) to downtown Guadalajara, I can't imagine a more convenient place.

The free breakfast is delicious and they change up the hot dishes each day (hotcakes, chilequiles, eggs, huevos rancheros, etc). Every day includes hot coffee (made with bottled water), tea, fresh-squeezed OJ (no water added), dry cereals and milk, fresh pastries, and fresh fruits (melons, bananas, etc.)
A fantastic way to start the day.

I'm not kidding when I say that you could check in here and only leave for lunch and dinner. It's that comfortable and peaceful.

A+++

Posada Guadalajara: From Holiday Inn, Hilton or an average hotel?

We recently visited Guadalajara and our question was where to stay!

We decided to book in the Posada Guadalajara or Hotel las Pergolas, both average hotels with a rate around 70-80 usd.. might sound expensive but i found them convienient for a mexican because I know this two places for years.

Posada Guadalajara is very easy to get there for me from the Autopista or from the airport and Las Pergolas y more because it was my dad used to stay for business. I found them confortable, they are not super max hotels but they are decent options.

One suggestion is that Guadalajara has pros and cons, so keep always an eye of all your valuable belonging, cameras, etcs.. it's all about a big city and there's all kind of people there, so just keep an eye to where you put your stuff all the time.

Unique Quality: Both hotels have pool, not so complicated to get there, etc..

If you want to use your travel hotel points, this is it, you can also find big brands as hilton, best western, holiday inn.. etc.. all of them not so difficult to find, they are big buildings with biiiiiggg sings..

Best Western Plaza Genova: Great location

I've stayed at this hotel several times while visiting Guadalajara. It's fairly clean, although be aware, you might see some roaches! But this seems to be the norm for Mexico, as our other hotel also had some, and it wasn't a cheap one! It appears the Best Westerns that are out of the US, do not have the same level of quality.

Anyhow, we stayed there during August, which is when the hotel is most booked, so stay clear during that time, or risk paying more.

Unique Quality: What I like best of this hotel is that it's right smack in down town, and within walking distance to several good restaurants and stores. Great for people that want something decent, and want to be in the middle of a busy city.

Hotel Hidalgo: Cheap stay

This is one of the places I checked while looking for a place to stay. And I would have stayed here they had free beds. It's so damn cheap. Only 50 pesos per person per night. I haven't seen the rooms, for that price I wouldn't care too much. Couldn't expect too much comfort or luxury, but a place to take a shower and a stay for the night. And if the place was full, it can't be that bad.

Hotel Lisboa: Hotel & XXX

Arrived in Guadalajara around noon, went on a quest to find a cheap accomodation, preferably somewhere close to the center. After a while a run into this one. It's right there in the center and it was cheap enough. 80 pesos per night in a double room with common bath. The price was only for one person, two people would pay 120 pesos for the same room. OK, room was nothing to rave about. The bed wasn't too comfortable, but it was clean.

Unique Quality: In the evening when I returned back to hotel, the before empty lobby was suddenly full of people. Actually only women. As it turned out (with a slight help of ''sound effects'') those were the ladies of the night and were waiting for customers.
