GUADALAJARA...HOTEL SAN...
by Lyn_2
GUADALAJARA...HOTEL SAN FRANCISCO PLAZA...It may look grand, but the rates are low. All rooms are large and attractive. The hotel has four beautiful courtyards, a restaurant, TV's and private baths. A taxi stand is right outside the front door and marimba musicians play outside the hotel several times a day. Best bang for the buck in Guadalajara.

"Huichol man"
This man is an indigenous Huichol. He is selling his crafts in one of the five plazas in Guadalajara. He's wearing traditional clothing from his area of Mexico.
"Bronze sculpture"
This is one of several sculptural pieces in front of the Instituto Cultural de Cabanas at the east end of Plaza Tapatia in Guad. These pieces reflect the wonderful sense of humor you can find throughout Mexico.
"Ole'"
I know the PETA people will come after me for the next two pictures, but I'm just the messenger! This was the final monent of truth for the poor bull. This was a highly skilled matador from Portugal and Guadalajara puts on bullfights weekly during the season. Olé!!!!
"Pork..."
Disgusting isn't it??? Well, this is what you might find at the huge Mercado Libertad in Guadalajara. I had my eyes closed while I walked through the meat section of the mercado. It's a good idea to close you nose too! There are thousands of good bargains on crafts, jewelry, clothing and furniture at the mercado though. If you're hungry, there are plenty of food stalls and restaurants inside too.
"Young artists..."
A short bus ride to Tonala or Tlaquepaque makes a wonderful day trip from Guadalajara. There are lots of small shops where you can see people making paper maché animals, pottery, blown glass or ceramics. These are a couple of the kids who are working on ceramics pieces for their family's shop.
"Great menu..."
Try to visit the La Feria Restaurant for a great meal and first class entertainment (evenings).
"Moderate hotel"
We stayed in the Hotel San Francisco Plaza while in Guadalajara. It's about 5 blks from the 5 plazas in the center of town. The hotel used to be two colonial mansions and the rooms are large and moderately priced. Good staff, clean, tv's, private baths, restaurant and good location.
