 | Buenaventura Hotel And Beach Club: Convenient location, clean and fun!

My husband and I stayed at the Buenaventura for our honeymoon in November 2003. We've been to Puerto Vallarta several times already and this is the first hotel that we are returning to. It's listed as a 2-3 star in most books which doesn't surprise me, but what it lacks in grandure, it makes up for in other ways. Here are some of the things I liked about the Buenaventura Hotel: Large pool Chairs, chairs, chairs. We never needed to get up early to reserve. Extremely close to the Malecon (Boardwalk) and the action of downtown Puerto Vallarta Beachfront - great sunsets! Room had partial ocean view All-inclusive Close to everything: a cappuccino bar across the street, great late night mexican restaurant 1 block away, internet cafes everywhere, lot's of shopping. Buses are cheap and stop almost right outside the front door of the hotel. Average or not-so-good: Rooms are not grand but very clean Neither my husband and I were crazy about the lunch menu. This was the time to indulge ourselves in some of the great Puerto Vallarta restaurants. There were limited activities, no shows in November (note: we never stay for the shows, but that might matter to some)
We received a room upgrade because we were on our honeymoon. The room had a partial ocean view and a jaccuzi. The jacuzzi did not work (leaked water everywhere) but it didn't spoil our fun. There is a nice hot tub at the resort that is not heavily used. We could see it from our window and knew exactly when to use it. As honeymooners we were treated to the most wonderful and romantic dinner in a private tower above the restaurant. Only one table which was attended to by our favourite waiter. They served us lobster and filet mignon (remember, this is a cheap all-inclusive!). We were so full that we could barely get down the stairs. Because the waiter was so attentive to us, we didn't want to be rude by not finishing our meal. The experience was so wonderful for us that we have booked our vacation at the Buenaventura again. The grounds in this place are simply beautiful. Lush trees, plants and meandering walkways give the feel of an eco-friendly jungle. The rooms are large with palapa roofs and pretty comfortable beds. There are kitchen facilities with dishes etc if you want to eat in. It's all clean, pretty new and just a block from the beach and half a block from the plaza.
Hard to find anyone in the office, but keep trying. Sooner or later it will work out. Theme: InnPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Calle Marlin 20Phone: 329-29-3111Directions: one half block from main plaza

It is nice to travel to a place like Casa la Ventana that meets one’s expectations for lodging and location while providing a couple of nice surprises that were not anticipated. I was staying at Casa la Ventana during November and December because I was going to start writing a screenplay. I wanted a modern and quite place that provided good Internet access. I was not disappointed with theses demands. The owners and the local staff provided great service and support. The property is gorgeous with all of its plants and vegetation. The room had a comfortable bed with great lighting, climate control, storage and fantastic bathrooms with a very nice shower. The top floor of Casa la Ventana is unique because one can view the whole village, the steep Sierra Madre Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. I had a couple meals that were cooked by one of the owners, which were outstanding because she gets the fish, tamales, cheese and other food from local vendors. The surprises of the trip were the following: 1. The local soccer field provided a great area to do my daily jogging – it was almost like a college track for softness of ground.. 2. There is a private beach that is a thirty-minute walk through the mountains, which is good for swimming and snorkeling. 3. The zoo at Mismaloya provided the necessary animal accommodation while maintaining a great environment to observe the animals, which the majority is indigenous to Mexico, according to the zoo brochure. 4. The Botanical Gardens, couple miles south of Boca, with its orchids and other flowers and plants, especially the vanilla plants were something that I didn’t think that I would like; I was wrong. The zoon and gardens offer some unusual settings for photographs. Especially nice was that I didn’t get sick for two months, always felt safe, and the accommodations, food, drink, attractions were well within my budget.
Casa la Ventana is located in Boca de Tomatlan, which provides an authentic atmosphere of a small working community with its commerce, schools, churches and people. The town has some grocery stores that provide fresh fruit and vegetables and other items at reasonable prices. Wanting more variety is a twenty- minute public bus ride for sixty-five cents into Puerto Vallarta; affording an opportunity to practice one’s Spanish with local riders. There are numerous restaurants that cater to local residents and people from Puerto Vallarta spending a day on the beach for the weekend. Ramon’s beach restaurant is excellent example of place that a person brags about after the vacation to others, with great seafood dishes, friendly and funny staff and a great jukebox with Mexican songs. It is also the local hangout for the non-Mexican residents that live in Boca de Tomatlan.. Both non-locals and locals provide good conversation and stories. The weekday ritual of the school children in their uniforms going to school and playing conjures nice images of one’s earlier schooling years. While the ritual of firing the cannon to announce the commencement of Sunday services is something most people may have not had while growing-up, it is an event that will always be remembered. The people of Boca de Tomatlan – Mexican and non-Mexican are a delight that enhances the emotions of traveling. These are people truly love living in this community, which, without sounding trite, makes a person appreciate the communal aspect of life.

In Puerto Vallarta, I staid at a hotel called Club Marival, this is a very fancy shmancy hotel but everything there lived up to the place's reputation, it's basically 2 hotels combined, with lots of pools, lots of activities, 3 restaurants and a buffet, and lots more
The Marival is really all you expect for your money Theme: HotelComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Blvd. Nuevo VallartaDirections: located at Blvd. Nuevo Vallarta , Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico 63735. Perfectl

Large private condo with 2bd, 2.5 ba. With incredible views of town, bay, with maid service 3 times a week.
You can enjoy the nightly fireworks from the terrace every night, or sipping coffee in the morning watching the big cruise ships coming in from afar. During the winter months, you could see the whales. The pool is just steps down, with great view of bay.

 | Costa Club Punta Arena Puerto Vallarta: A circus of a hotel (literally)

I stayed at Costa Club Punta Arena for 7 nights in March 2005 for a college Spring Break trip with 7 other guys. We paid for an all-inclusive trip that seemed like a decent deal. We were wrong. Being college students, I would say that we are all usually very tolerant of noise, crappy food, and humble living accomodations, but this place was below everyone's standards! For example, the 8 of us had 4 seperate rooms, two to a room that is, and my room key happened to work for 3 out of the 4 locks. This was not intended. Also, one day my roomate and I came back to our room to find the outside door knob had been entirely removed and we were still locked out. After telling the front desk, we returned to find a new knob with a different lock. The maintance guy eventually gave us the key. The kicker is that they tried to charge us for a doorknob change when we were checking out! What? Other things, the all inclusive buffet was horrible slop. Once I saw spaghetti noodles with tomatoe sauce and cut up hot dogs...the food ended up making most of us sick- it was aimed at meeting the Mexican standard of food I guess. What else, oh yeah your room will have no view of the ocean because there is a gutted abandoned high rise blocking the way. Also, the carnival is located right next door. If you plan on ever sleeping in, bring ear plugs because obnoxious Mexican music commences before 8 am on the loudspeaker at the pool. If you can't tell by now, we all hated this place! Don't go! Spend an extra $100 for the week and stay somewhere much better! Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: AV FCO MEDINA ASCENCIO NO 1737, Puerto Vallarta, M
