Lovely place, Lovely staff, Mellow pool on roof

I would stay here again. Right in the heart of things. The small pool on the roof means no screaming kids and no vendors. Mostly Canadians. You can buy an 'all inclusive' single meal ticket, buffet style, at their partner, Los Arcos, across the street, which has a big warm pool, hot tub and occasionally screaming kids. And GREAT massages, I had three in 4 days.

***Beware, in the next block is a small shop that will short-change you. She's next to 440 Las Oljas. A late 20's, slim Mexican woman with straight shoulder length hair. She'll take your money, then look at you like you haven't given her any, and refuses to give you your change. She ripped me off for $40. and I watched as she did it to another guy a few days later. She dosen't give a receipt. Apparently her uncle owns the shop.
The shop sign says: Paleteria, La Reyna de Michoacan.*** (Instead, Go to the sweet guy in the bigger shop on her right- he's legit.) Buy water- brush your teeth with it too. I did not get sick this time.

The beachfront bars are packed at sunset and just a block from this hotel. "C&C's" had a fantastic singer for a few nights, with a Julio Iglesias voice.

There are cheap internet access shops all over. We used the turquoise (approx$20./week) cell phones which works intermitently. Keep trying. It's not you.

A block down to the beach and 'under the bridge' the shrimp skewer ladies are great. Just ask them to make what you want while you wait.

The wild Andale bar is 1/2 block away.** DO NOT WALK DRUNK FROM THE BAR BEYOND 2 BLOCKS, TAKE A CAB- TOO MANY MUGGINGS, & PURSE SNACHINGS.**

Stay at Casa Susana for the economical & convenient location to hot spots. Do the art walks! See Uno Gallery, and Puerco Azul. and read Gil Givens books, from his wife Lucy's shop.

Unique Quality: Lovely Views from the rooftop deck and pool. Super clean, sharp, reliable staff. Especially at the front counter. Close to the action, yet quiet location.

FREE safe in the room- USE IT !

Fridge in my room. (I did make ice with bottled water.)

Ask about the Saturday farmers market for lots of gourmet goodies.

Do not venture onto the dark streets alone - Anywhere.

Do take a 65 peso bus ride in the day!

(I would like a pool to be lukewarm, but otherwise it was perfect.)
Yes it was romantic , even as a single!

This hotel front desk will get you a good cab fare to the airport. Have correct funds.
I tip generously, but apparently it's not 'required.'

hotel choices

by aliciaq

A friend and I are going to pv late Jan 2011 for 5 days and want to stay at a small/boutique hotel under $100. Is that doable? Safe? Has anybody stayed at Casa Dona Susana? We're more travellers than tourists...thanks!! Alicia

Yes, it is doable and in safe locations along the beach for many of the rentals. You can look over many of the rentals at FlipKey at TripAdvisor. One of the one bedroom rentals is on the 14th floor of the hotel but it is on the beach. See their website: http://www.flipkey.com/properties/view/119655/casa+bella+beachfront+ocean+view+condo++wifi/
