Drinking (virgin) pina coladas by the pool
by Carmanah
A fond memory I have is sitting by the swimming pool at the hotel with my sister, enjoying our virgin pina coladas. (We were 12 and 15 at the time - no rumfor us!) Incidentally, they're now my favourite tropical drinks - crushed ice, pineapple juice and coconut milk. Yum! Although now I'd probably splash a bit of Bermuda rum for taste. *grin*
Jackos?
by jamiesno
I noticed through my visit to Peurto Vallarta in a variety of buildings in a variety of places you would see these Jackos on the walls everywhere.
As far as I know they are harmless and are not going to attack you. It's hilarous though watching the ladies fret and panic at the sight of them. I don't know what more to say about that then just relax and ignore them.
If one is on your pillow maybe just brush it off or something, ehhehe :-)
Ecological Conservatory
by Mindy_J
The local conservatory is at the pier most mornings to raise money for their cause. We paid, I think 5.00 for a picture with the seal, who was an amazing picture to meet! He climbed on his pedistal & put his head right on my chest. I wanted to bring him home!!
They also had their parrot their, asking for a tip & you take the pic with your own camer. we tipped 2.00 USD.. Come on guys.. It's a good cause!
Pack smart!
by monica71
If you plan on moving a lot during your vacation, stick to just one piece of luggage/bag per person. Make sure you also pack a small bag for souvenirs if you plan on buying a lot of them. You really do not need that much! For 7 days I packed 2 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of capri pants, 1 light sweater (since we planned on going to the mountains too), 4 T-shirts, one hat to protect my head from the sun, one small umbrella (we visited during the rainy season and this umbrella came in very handy at times), 1 pair of sneakers and 1 pair of flip-flops, 1 pajama, 2 pairs of socks and 4 bathing suits.
One thing you must not forget to pack is sunscreen lotion. Get one with a high SPF (over 35) since the sun is really hot and strong and you can easily get sunburn. Unless you are on a prescription medication, you can buy everything once you get there if you need it. The pharmacists are very friendly and willing to help and the prices are much cheaper than the ones in US.
My husband had a terrible earache while we were in Puerto Vallarta and a quick stop at the pharmacy took care of the pain. We got some medication from there and the pain was gone by the next day. lots of film, large memory card, etc.
Photo equipment is very expensive in Mexico and may also be hard to find if you travel to remote locations. I happened to break my digital camera during our trip to Tepic. It was impossible to even find a place that would sell disposable cameras on the way to Tepic or even in town. We ended up taking no pictures in Tepic because of this unfortunate event. sunscreen lotion, flip flops and a hat to protect your head from the sun
Haggle with the price even with Water Sports
by Windows2Heaven
Jet skiing on the Bay of Banderas can't be beat. However, the price can be steep. Don't be shy and don't just accept the initial price --- haggle and compromise. My husband got a deal for a 30 minute rental just by holding off and haggling with the price. These people will provide for all necessary equipment including life vests.
