Riu Palace

We are going to Nuevo Vallarta & thinking about staying at the Riu Palace Pacifico but I can't find it in the hotel section to see the reviews- I am looking under Puerto Vallarta & I do see the other 2 Riu's listed & they are in Nuevo as well. Has anyone stayed at the Palace & give me some info....or does someone know if it is listed under something else & where I can go to find it?

the Nuevo Vallarta area is as said New. Only 9 miles from downtown Puerto Vallarta but close to the airport. Have not stayed there but their website looks excellent: http://riupacifico.com/default.aspx\
As for reviews, our sister company TripAdvisor has reviews on the hotel at: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g679578-d1097502-Reviews-Riu_Palace_Pacifico-Riviera_Nayarit_Pacific_Coast.html
Trust that helps you out. If interested, I do have in VT Puerto Vallarta tip pages some tips that may help you out. Have fun. :-)

hmmm. i prefer south of the rio cuale over nuevo vallarta, but it depends on what you want. there seem to be more chain stores in nuevo, but lots of cool boutiques in zona romantica if you're into shopping. also, nuevo vallarta has the cruise ship stop, so not great beaches, unless you go further north.
but if you're at a five star hotel, you'll have all the amenities you need, most likely. enjoy!

Hello V. I have stayed at this Riu. Its nice BUT I like the old Vallarta over the new. Mind you, its got everything but I like staying close to town. I've been to PV more than 15 times and this last time , a year ago we stayed there. If you stay there you will need a rental car or use taxi to go anywhere. All the cool galaries, Restaurants, etc. are in old PV. If your interest is going in the other direction ie. Punta Mita ($$$$), Sayulita (Kawabunga/surf) then this would be a better location. Check out the Sheraton Buganvilia (only because of location. Best beach: The old Camino Real Hotel south of old PV. I think its called the Dreams now. By far the beaches south of PV are WAY BETTER than N of PV. Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta at sunrise
by BLewJay
The boat pulled into the bay around 6 in the morning...the city was asleep, but you could see the sun coming up over the mountains...what a beautiful sight. Today was going to be a great day and the weather didn't disappoint us as the sun was out and there was a nice breeze blowing through the city.
Serenade

The relaxing atmosphere combined with the Mexican setting was great.
A dinner seranade at the resort set a romantic mood for my friends (except I was dining with them, too!). The musicians were a lot of fun and seemed to be enjoying themselves too.

visit the old part of Puerto Vallarta on the south side of the Rio Cuale. There was definitely a lot more character in this neighbourhood, and a little bit less touristy once you got away from the beach.

women and children begging on the sidewalk
by susiemargare
the mexican government discourages begging, but sometimes it is very hard to pass by the sad-looking indigenous (indian) women on the sidewalks with their babies. this is something that you will have to work out for yourself, preferably before you go downtown. i NEVER give money to children.
DO NOT OVERPACK!
by richmalak
One backpack...period! (1) swimsuit (2) pair shorts (1) pair pants for church (4) nice t-shirts (4) underwear (1) pair good walking sandles (1) hat (1) pair socks for plane bare minimum...if a need arises you can purchase it there disposable camera...or buy one there (1) towel You can wash some clothes in hotel sink and hang them on railing outside room to dry...or do like i tend to do and every 4 days or so drop your dirty stuff off at the laundy...on way to beach in am or at noon or whatever you will be going west on calle Basilio Badillo...hang a left on calle Olas Altas and there is a great laundry on your left...drop off your clothes and pick them up clean, dry, and neatly folded on your way back a few hours later...the cost is negligible. There are laundries on every other block.
