  • Great place to stay

Just returned from my third stay here. First 2 times via RCI trades; most recent is a hotel reservation. All stays have been enjoyable. Rooms (studio or 1BR) are clean, well-maintained and comfortable. Time share units appear to be better equipped, but I found the hotel staff (especially Mariette) to be very accommodating in securing things like a microwave and toaster. All staff are friendly and speak English.

What attracts us back to Los Tules? (1) Beautiful quiet grounds. (2) A palapa area within ordering distance to the bar at Fiesta Americana next door. Just get to know the wait staff and they'll come by every hour to check on you. (3) There are a lot of Mexican families who vacation here. Wonderful to meet them and get to know their country & customs better. Not to say there are not Americans and Canadians here. (4) Location -- across the street from shopping center with Soriana supermarket, especially the bakery which is a must for breakfast, afternoon cookie breaks, etc. About 1 mile away from WalMart in case you forgot anything, but then there are plenty of shopping centers within a mile. (5) $5.50 peso bus ride to town for dinner and shopping. (6) You are not paying for a lot of amenities -- no fancy restaurant or disco/bar; no sports/activity desk. However, they'll try to get you to a timeshare presentation. A polite, firm no gracias will stop the patter. (7) 7 swimming pools to choose from. (8) A kitchen so we have the option of eating breakfast in or reheating a "doggie" bag for a snack.

Directions: Hotel Zone. Next door to Fiesta Americana.

    Laid Back and Beautiful

We had chosen Los Tules since it was a little north of town, so quieter that many downtown spots. Additionally the large grounds were once a Palm plantation, so the landscaping and trees are beautiful. We had a room just off the beach and by the pool, really nice but reasonalbe. Also more than half the quests were Mexican families so it didn't feel like little America.

    Hideaway from downtown

This was a great place to stay and enjoy the beach and pools in PV. Centrally located between Marina and Downtown and across the street from Gigante (big grocery store with everything you possibly need). Our hotel was clean, facing the pool and the beach. The only complained I have is we reserved Junior Studio with 1 bed and upon arrival our room was not ready and they placed us in a studio with 2 twin beds. But we are not picky. We just took down the mattresses on the floor and slept like that the whole time. They did offer us to relocate to a different room, but we liked the current room so much that it did not matter to us.

  • Poor Quality Overall

We stayed at Los Tules in Feb of 2005. Our room was clean and had the basic two beds and a bath. However it was very noisy with facing the traffic. We would turn on the a.c. to block out the noise however it was very old and dusty and sounded like an airplane. There was also a lot of construction going on. Early morning we were awakened by all of the repairs going on around the property. A lot of banging and drilling. Also there was only one pool open and it was not heated. With highs of late 70's early 80's outside it was just too cold for swimming. You could get in but not stay in for long, the water was just too cool. The restaurant on property was good and the staff was friendly. The grounds were nice also despite the multiple repairs going on. Our ceiling fan in our room did not work and there was no alarm clock. I would not recommend staying here. It was not unbarable. There are just much nicer places to stay in Puerto Vallarta for the same amount of money. I would also recommend if you must stay here to ask for a room not facing the traffic and not near where they are doing construction. It is just too noisy.

  • Nice pool

Well we didn't really stay at this hotel but that didn't stop us from using their pool and beach. It was nice for us to run away from the downtown beach and forget about beach vendors that don't let you relax for more than 3-4 minutes. They are forbidden from approaching the property of big hotels llike this one.

Unique Quality: Pool and the beach (see photos)

  • wonderful mexican feeling

This is a wonderful resort, no time share pressure in the resort what so ever. 18 people were on this trip and we had three 3 bedroom condo's. Rosie our maid went above and beyond her line of duty to make sure we were comfortable and the condo was spotless every day. Pools were sparkling clean as were the grounds. If you want to stay in an american 5 star resort high rise go elsewhere. If you want a taste of mexican vacation lifestyle go to Los Tules. Being an american there we were the minorities. Every one treated us with kindness and we were very comfortable. Great location...3 dollars to the malecon and 4 dollars to the airport. Super location. The only negative about the vacation was the jungle tour... The tour was great but the last stop where the predator was filmed was horrible. The place is beautiful but took 3 hours to get served our food which was marginal at best. Not the tour companies fault as they appoligized several times and were embarrassed. Over all experience on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this a 9.

Unique Quality: The grounds and view were perfect. Beach front with about 8 pools scattered all over the grounds. The main pool in the condo area had a resteraunt and bar. Over at the hotel side was a large pool with swim up bar.

Go to Pipi's , this is a must do resteraunt

Directions: 5 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes to the malecon and downtown area.

  • Had a bad experience

I just got back from pv. we stayed here. i had a bad experience here. we were told our room would be beach front suite by our travel agent. when we got there our room was a tiny one bedroom facing traffic, nowhere near facing the beach. when we told the front desk about this the lady told us to talk to manager carlos the next day. when we talked to him he said we could change rooms for an extra 30 dollars a night. we declined. we already spent enough money on our trip. we called our travel agent and she and carlos argued over the phone. neither took the blame. we went back and stayed in our room which was very noisy because of the traffic (all you could hear was traffic all night). i purchased ear plugs and used them for the remainder of the week. the room also had no alarm clock and the a/c sounded like a truck. there was also a lot of construction going on which was quite noisy and 2 of the pools were closed. be forewarned, you might not get what you pay for. oh yeah... bring an alarm clock.

by nightlisa about LOS TULES.

During the month of May we found a special in the travel section for 7 days/nights including airfare for $550 pp/do. Airfare from PDX to Puerto Vallarta is usually around $300. So comparably we paid less than ($150X2)$300 for the week for both of us. But during other months I see the same resort go for much more.. March, April & May seem to be the most reasonable. Gorgeous landscape with palm trees everywhere. Not your standard boxy square hotel either. Each building looks like a tiered mexican plaza house. There are at least 7 pools for customer use, the resort runs along the beach with lots of great views. There are tennis courts, multiple hot tubs, at least one with a rock waterfall, etc. Our room was humongous and had a great ocean view and we were paying the super special rate we found in the Weekend paper! Also this place caters to the time share crowd, but it's not very crowded and most of our time in the nearest pool was uniterrupted!

My boyfriend and I took a 4.5 day trip to Puerto Vallarta this December and stayed at Los Tules. We didn't have a lot to spend so we did the Expedia package deal, and we were not disappointed. Los Tules is surrounded by hundreds of beautiful palm trees, has about 8 swimming pools overlooking the bay, and is a short cab ride from downtown. The staff was friendly, especially the woman at the front desk who was extremely helpful and spoke perfect english. Our room was not posh but comfortable and clean, and had a lock box and refrigerator. We would definitely recommend Los Tules as a great place to stay in Puerto Vallarta.

Did you have to wire money to a strange person while dealing with Los Tules?
To pay the balance of the rent?
