The Playa Los Arcos Beach Resort & Spa
by traveldave
Puerto Vallarta has many world-class resorts and hotels, many of which can be expensive. In 1983 I stayed at the Playa Los Arcos Beach Resort & Spa (named for Los Arcos, a natural rock formation in Banderas Bay). At that time, it was a clean and basic hotel. However, since then it has been renovated extensively and is more expensive and upscale now than it was. My description is of the hotel as it exists now.
The hotel has been redecorated and now has the decor of nineteenth-century Mexican haciendas and features Mexican artwork and handicrafts. Amenities include two restaurants (one of which overlooks the beach), a cafe, a snack bar, and an outdoor palapa bar with live music.
The rooms and suites are decorated in Mexican colonial style, and all have balconies or terraces which overlook either the ocean or the pool area. The rooms feature air conditioning, king size beds, cable television, direct-dial international telephone service, safety deposit boxes, and hair dryers. Outdoor and beach activities are a main focus of the Playa Los Arcos Beach Resort & Spa. The hotel is situated right on Los Muertos Beach and controls a small portion of the beach, which is reserved for guests. Waiters come out to the beach to take orders for drinks.
There are three interconnected swimming pools which overlook the beach and ocean, one of which has a waterfall. Guests can relax in the ocean-view outdoor jacuzzi or order drinks and snacks at the palapa bar with live music next to the pool.
Great Tours, Sightseeing, Restaurants, etc.

We've gone on many tours, geat finds on restarants, nightlife, and visited small towns outside the city.
We've gone on Jungle tours on 4 wheelers, Horseback riding through the mountains, City Tours, and Boat tours to private islands.
Great restaurants in the Marina, go to the top of the Marina lighthouse for a cocktail at sunset, eat at a restaurant on Los Muertos Beach, and party at many of the clubs on the Malecon. Go to Le Kliff restaurant for a special dinner. Lazy Lizard palapa restaurant on Los Muertos beach for a cheap bucket of beer and great food. For a secluded beach visit Mismaloya Beach, Nuevo Vallarta, or the small town of Sayulita.
Ocean from Condo for rent.
Great Oceanfront, great specials
by DuncanK1 about Epoca Restaurante
Epoca has a new chef and has introduced a number of wonderful new dishes. Most days they have a special as well as Happy Hour 3-5pm. Facebook friends also receive news of additional special offers.
The oceanfront setting is lovely, especially at sunset and is set in one of the quieter stretches of the Los Muertos beach near Rio Cuale and the Malecon. Duck Mole - an unusual dish you wont find in many places.
Great location

great restaurant by Los Muertos beach, which is now a classic place in Vallarta. They have really good food, a bit pricey though, but very consistent. Very popular with tourists and expats.
I recommend it specially for lunch, when it has a different menu much cheaper, but still same quality. Pescado a la antigua, they put a whole fish in a stick and they cook it like that. You get the whole thing with all its flavour. This was the way fish was cooked by fishermen in Vallarta
