Looking for a market selling local fruits/vegetables...

by culturedesigns

Hello Fellow Travelers!
I am going to Mexico on a cruise this Jan. with a couple of my girlfriends and one of the things I'm most interested in is finding, say an open air market(or otherwise) selling fresh local fruits and vegetables. We will have limited time, so somewhere in the main Puerto Vallarta area, not to far off the beaten track would be better.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Downtown Puerto Vallarta has the Agro Gourmet Organics produce market (corner of Badillo and Vallarta streets. Also, Fruit Forest Mercado Mexico located on Badillo Street one block up from AGO. :-)

Thanks so much..when reading just the general reviews for Puerto Vallarta I noticed yours, we seem to have similar travel interests. If you happen to have anything you'd also recommend for Mazitlan, let me know.
Again, Thanks for your info.

See the VT Mazatlan Travel Guide for all details:

I do have a few tips for Mazatlan but the overall picture is best served by the other members of VT that make up the Mazatlan Travel Guide. Have fun. :-)

Check with the cruise line to see if you are allowed to bring those products back on the ship.
Mazatlan has a market area downtown that I find fun and interesting. It beats going to Senor Frogs for lunch

Hola Griff! I love open air markets and even closed overhead city markets but hard to beat Panchos with not only great Mexican food dishes but a fabulous Margarita to enjoy with the Mariachis that walk around the tables signing and strumming right in your ears. Go to the market first then after you are hungry from all the goodies at the market, head over to Panchos. The location of Panchos right on the beach in the Golden Zone is also a big plus. Ole! Great for lunch when not on the cruise ship. I have a VT tip for them, if you are interested. ;-) See VT website: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/736c8/e5a00/2/

Thank you, I will. I was mostly just interested in trying new fruits and veggies, not necessarily bringing them home. But I will check just in case.
Thanks

Travel Tips for Puerto Vallarta

Very Nice City Bus Tour

by danairozo

I really liked the City Bus Tour from the Cruise Ship. It took a nice tour up the Coast and came back to downtown to the City Hall and also a Tequila tasting restaurant.
This was a great way to see Puerto Vallarta for a morning. I liked the Tequila tasting room. I liked the Margarita which was included. It was a good idea to take the City Tour. I was on a Cruise Ship (Princess) and was part of a Singles Group.

LADY VIOLA

by RoyJava

Travelling to Mexico is like coming home for Dutch guys born in Indonesia. Exploring beach resort of Puerto Vallarta and, its beautiful Banderas bay are more than a pleasure, however I regret I missed the Whale watch. When to choose between ocean and jungle I cannot make up my mind, raised in Papua New Guinea with both ... thought the ocean views always win my attention! But ... exploring Puerto Vallarta with a famous Dutch Lady was an utmost stunning experience, funny, crazy, wicked, marvelous, phantastic, and party time!
Thanks Lady Viola!

stroll down the Malecon, the waterfront walkway. This is the heart of Puerto Vallarta where all the main shops, restaurants and entertainment are located. There was always something going on at the Malecon, such as the art gallery you see in the photo.

Sea Turtle Sanctuary

by Mindy_J

The most wonderfu thing about the "Dreams Resort" in Puerto Vallarta, is that the sea turtle conservatory is located on the beach!! We were walking early one morning on a romantic strole & were called over by an attendant, they had just hatched!! We were able to hold them & everything!!! It was such a special moment. For a donation, you can release them into the ocean when they are about 24.-48 hours old.

Don't know how to pack light!

by ZanieOR

I took a huge duffle bag, while my friends all took a small bag. They were the smart ones: whenever someone needed a bandaid, extra batteries, sun lotion etc, etc I was the one that had it. Swimming suit, beach shoes, shorts, light weight pants. It was windy one day, but still warm When we arrived in October a rainy s Definitely sun screen and bandaids. My friend sunburned his white farmers' feet the first day, and I can't remember who needed the bandaids. For sure a camera and film or digital memory card. I have mislaid some of my photos, but I am sure they will resurface.
