cold!

This May is the warmest it has ever been in Toluca, but the normal temperature is COLD. Toluca is consistently the coldest city in Mexico. Snow may fall in the winter. Hail is common in the summer. Nighttime temperatures can dip into the 30s in summer, in the teens in winter, but the next morning it can hit the 60s.
Rule of thumb: whatever the temperature in Mexico City, subtract ten degrees to estimate the temperature in Toluca.
The extinct volcano 'Nevado de...
by flyingpig
The extinct volcano 'Nevado de Toluca' (4690 m. high) is located South of Toluca. The crater contains two beautiful high altitude lakes. It is possible to do short hikes inside or around the volcano, or climb from within the crater to the ridge (quite a strenuous attempt requiring a good level of fitness and appropriate hiking shoes). The air is amazingly pure at that altitude. The 'Nevado de Toluca' is a nice day trip away from the pollution of Mexico City.
To get there, take a bus from Mexico City's Terminal Poniente (near Metro Observatorio) to Toluca. ETN operate luxury buses but their frequency is limited. A 2nd class bus is fine given that Toluca is only 1 hour from Mexico City by the highway. Once in the bus station of Toluca, go to the main taxi rank in front of the building and negotiate the trip to the volcano with the drivers. For Pesos $500 you should be able to get all the way to the lakes, have the driver wait 1-2 hours for you, and have a lift back to Toluca to catch a return bus.
On weekends many Mexicans make their way to the lakes to have a good time, thus the place can get rather busy, but not overcrowded.
Toluca - one of the highest towns in Mexico
by SrdjanJovanovic
When you come to MExico, you realize that you are on 1500 m above sea level, and that you start to breath a little heavier than before, and then you decide to go to Toluca - on 2800 m above sea level...Well,be sure that you will breath even more heavie, and you can not walk a long distance, becouse you get tired, but don't be afraid, that lasts for few hours or maximum 2 days, and then you start to run around the citie, becouse you feel like on the mountain.Trust me,after few days I have been in volkano Shinantekatl, some 4500 m above sea level, and that is something you can't miss.
I guess that you should go to the center, and there you can go to some museums,or botanic garden,or something like that.Well, you will do that for sure. What I wanted to say is what you must do becide that :
1)buy for 5 pesos "torta de molo verde" in the center,on the street shop - something like sandwitch, but hot - the best thing I have ever eat
2)go to the Shinantekatl - old,not working volcano on some 30-40 km from the town (there was filmed Conan 1,you will see why)
3)Try "michelada" - beer with a lemon,salt and chile
"On the other side are piramides Calixtlahuaca"
Well, some 20 km from Toluca, there are piramides, very special, becouse they are in the shape of circle. Here I put the picture of road to the piramides, becouse it is very interesting.I guess this is one of my favorite pictures from Mexico.Look it good!
