A great view of the city
The Santa Maria hill is located in the eastern side of town and was deserted some 15-20 years ago. Now it's full of buildings, schools, houses, a few small expensive hotels, etc. This is known for being one of the nicest and most "chic" zones in town: you can find some big and elegant houses spread on the hill, and they are EXPENSIVE. This is where my parents owned their piece of land many years ago: if they still had it and we sold it now we would be rich, LOL. The trading value of this area has raised more and more as years have gone by.
On the top of this hill there is a little area where you can stop by and admire the entire city from above: you can spot this mirador from the foot of the hill as there is a huge Mexican flag in this place. This hill is where we (my family and I) used to witness how much Morelia was growing: it has gotten really extended as you may see in the picture. The view is gorgeous and this place is still peaceful, so you can spend a while relaxing while admiring the panorama.
Although the zone has been arranged for this purpose (sightseeing), the road that leads to it isn't very well traced (i.e. there are barely any signals), so if you're driving uphill try to always keep your left wherever the road splits. Eventually the road will take you there. Then you will find your way down without a lot of problem. In any case, you can always take a taxi and they will certainly know how to get there. There's a parking area where you can drop your car and then walk a few steps to reach the sightseeing area. Be careful when driving on this road though: it's very windy and, when going downhill, you can reach high speeds! ;-)
