In front of the Acueducto...
This hotel isn't too close to the downtown area but rather halfway between the "modern" zone of the city (Convention center, shopping malls, etc.) and the old downtown area. It's next to the Acueducto and the Jardin Morelos, which are still tourist attractions, but the surrounding area is 100% residential. There's also a BIG garden/park across the street from the Acueducto where the Modern art museum is located.
I picked this place because of its decent rates at the time and because I had a car and could drive around the city, but if walking isn't your thing and you want to be right in downtown because you want/need to be within walking distance from all the main tourist spots then this place might not be the best for you. Of course there are taxis and public transportation that you can take right next to the hotel and will take you to downtown if you don't have a car of your own, but keep in mind that the Acueducto avenue is very busy as well as Madero Ave. so it will take you a while to reach downtown either this way or by foot.
The hotel has parking space available just in front of the building and it's pretty safe and convenient. It's pretty simple, no luxuries but just the necessary amenities and the service was good as well.
Unique Quality: The regular price for a double room (good size, big bathroom, balcony) is around $700 MXP per night (about $55 USD - Sept. 2009 rates) but we got a discount at the time and only paid $500 Mexican pesos per night (in 2005) -- it was 2 of us so the price per person was quite OK. Then of course there are bigger rooms and even suites...
It was a pretty decent price considering its location and the rates other hotels in the area (and even farther away from downtown) have... And even though it's not a fancy hotel, it's enough to have a clean place to sleep & take a shower at during your stay.
They take major credit cards except for Amex.
