Pesacdores de Patzcuaro
by mtncorg
Fishing was done in the lake with the use a huge butterfly shaped nets. Today, each boat on its way to Janitzio will get a demonstration of the old fishing skills. A group of fisherman - two to a boat - will form a circle with their boats and dip their nets. They will then come up along the tourist boat to demonstrate their luck and to gain a few pesos from an appreciative audience :-]

"lunch with the view of the lake"
I had a lunch at the Hotel I stayed, Posada la Basilica. The restaurant was on the second floor and had a nice view of the lake.
I enjoyed their local dish, the soup Tarasca was especailly good, and the waiter was very nice.
Filete de Mojarra natural (fish), Sopa Tarasca (bean soup with Chile Pasilla, Tortilla Dorada and Gueso Presco), Flan de casa
"Hotel Posada la Basilica"
I liked this small charming hotel across from Basilica. Sketched the fireplace and the tile in the bathroom.
Reasonable (I think it was under $30 a night), friendly, fairly clean, quiet and has a lot of charactor.

"Isla de Janitzio"
I don't remember how long it took nor how I went there. It was not that far from Pátzcuaro. All I remember was from one point I took a boat to the island hoping to sketch fishermen (they fish with butterfly nets). But when I arrived there, they were all gone out to the lake fishing. I sketched fish instead....
Isla de Janitzio is a tiny island with full of souvenir shops.
