Thank You, Viva!!!

My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Viva Vallarta in May. I first want to say that we were extremely apprehensive, as we paid very little for our trip in comparison to other packages we had priced. The trip began very badly as it was the first time I had left my two small children. I was extremely upset, and cried the whole way there. I actually contemplated going back home immediately after the plane landed, but this was our first trip anywhere out of the country, and I had always wanted to go to Mexico. The minute we arrived at the resort, the staff expressed their concern for my well-being, as I was a mess from crying all day. They were EXTREMELY empathetic and caring, and I have to say that is the first time I have had so many people so genuinely concerned for me who were not family. We arrived at the resort 2 hrs before check in and they gave us our armbands immediately, took our luggage and told us to get something to eat! The food was AMAZING (and I am a VERY picky eater) and I thought the alcohol was just fine! The resort was cleaner than any resort or hotel I have ever seen in the US. The staff was SO helpful as far as how to call home, what transportation to use and how to bargain with the vendors. They were adamant in saving us money!
We were approached by the "timeshare" tactic, but they were very nice about it. We went to the presentation because we wanted the 40 viva dollars! We used the money for a free pedicure (the BEST I have ever had) and to help pay for a nite in Puerto Vallarta! The staff informed us that the timeshare presentation would take 2 hrs, but after being there for only 15 minutes, if that.... the girl said "if you are not interested, I will not waste your time! We will just get you back to your vacation immediately." I never once felt "pushed" to purchase. In fact, we were interested, and had to ask repeatedly for more information! The people who gave us our presentation were in no way pushy!
My ultimate goal is to have the opportunity to go back to Viva! We have priced other vacations, but I only want to go back to Viva Vallarta! Thanks so much Viva!
Feel free to email me with any questions about the resort! I would love to answer them! I have pictures, too!
Not what I was expecting!!

I went to Viva Vallarta with 3 of my girlfriends. We reserved 2 different rooms which we had understood would be next to eachother or ajoining. NO, they were totally across from eachother and took about 5 to 10 minutes to get to eachothers rooms. We asked everyday to get rooms by each other and were told everyday that we could tomorrow. It obviously never happened. We were ignored and were treated very rudly. We felt this was because we were American. (One of the only American groups there) Our shower water was always cold, and our toilet backed up almost everyday. One night we were even followed to our room by guys and called for security to come and walk the other members of our party to their room and the securuty never came. We were constantly called all night long by the guys working there and they told us they had been following us and had some scary details. By talking to other single women groups, we found this was a common phenomena. It was completly secluded with one dance club that played really bad music and closed at 1 am. The food was terrible and the drinks were very watered down. The beach was so rocky that I couldn't even swim in it and when I attempted I just got sucked uunder and got scraped knees. I would never go back here!!! The only good things were the shows and the Viva song.
Good vs Bad at Club Viva

Good: attentive and friendly staff; decent selection of food i.e., buffet, snack bar, and late night snacks; super clean rooms with excellent a/c; well-manicured grounds;personal safe deposit box in each room with mini refrigerator stocked with sodas at no extra charge. Bad: far away from Puerto Vallarta unless you don't mind a $30 - $40 taxi or a $1.50 fare on the local bus(wear insect repellent before boarding bus, especially on legs); weak/watered-down alcoholic drinks(tip bartender for more strength); nighlty theatre kept repeating a techno.theme with no originality; children allowed in the disco; limited daily activities and equipment; dangerous rocks lurking in the beach surf which further hampered a very small beach; many flights of stairs or tiers to climb;having to make 1-3 day reservations for the 2 specialty restaurants(we never did eat in them); huge influx of local families on the weekend, which enforced a family-oriented atmosphere and prevented adult couples from seeking peace and relaxation; no food or snacks alllowed at the adult pool area: time share pitch disguised as an orientation.
Great Resort, but beware of Maids

Returned from Viva Villarta on October 25th; got out 4 hours before the hurricane hit. Extremely satisfied with this resort.......staff, rooms, food, activities. My 9 year old daughter had a great time. But BEWARE!! Two of my daughter's library books were stolen out of our room. The room has a safe in a closet, but it is tiny. Will only hold a wallet, some papers (airline ticket), and jewelry. How disappointing and rude........to steal a child's books. No one was in our room except the maids. If you go, be sure not to leave anything out and lock up your suitcases. These books were in a suitcase.
