  • What a Steal

    by

WOW.... I think I booked this hotel off one of the cheap flight/hotel sites... It was an incredible deal in the winter. It will probably run about 60-100 for a good hotel in Monterrey, so this one, at about $60 a night was a steal. In fact, with the exchanged rate, I was charged a little less than I was quoted on the booking site....
It takes a good 20 mins. or so, up a winding and worn down road up the mountain. Depending on your taxi driver, it can be a bit scary, generally pretty good. You are let off in front of the main building, which styled like a cozy little cabin... The rooms are no different. The rooms are set on the ledge overlooking the city of monterrey. The view thru the trees is fantastic, especially at night. The rooms included a king bed, couch, tv, good AC, and a fireplace that was perfect for a winter night in the mountains. On the last day, a fog rolled through the mountains in the morning..... It was gorgeous.. plus, they are always leaving tortilla strips for the birds and squirrles in the little garden outside the restaurant... we saw birds from every color of the rainbow.
The only downside is the long and expensive taxi ride to get to and from your hotel each day... but, its not all that bad.. All in all, a true deal.... if I was in monterrey only for a day or two, I would stay in the town... But, for a relaxing long weekend, or even a week, I would do chiqinque again.

Unique Quality: Pool was drained... They do have workout facilities... A very good restaurant, and little bar... There are all sorts of trails through the mountain, and even a little park, with slides and other stuff for kids... the grounds are a little rustic, but its works well with the natural scenery...

    Directions: In the mountains

Chipinque -View of the city

by Sabino_P

Nice view of the city, you can drive to the middle of the mountain. there is small store, a hotel and a restaurant at this place.

Different trails to walk from the entrance to the middle of the mountain or you could try to go to the top.

Visit the mountains... truly,...

Visit the mountains... truly, the mountain ranges that surround the city give it its character. You can easily hike up Chipinque, which offers an array of hiking paths with various levels of difficulty. Wonderful views, great escape from the city!

Chipinque natural park

by TinyTuck

Yet another natural park here in Monterrey! It has got nice mountain trails in green nature (in contrast to dessert-like Huasteca).

From here you can enjoy a great view over the city of Monterrey.

Monterrey

Hi, I'm planning a trip to Monterrey sometime in August. I was wondering what are some cool places to visit that have reasonable prices as far as entrance. I'm also interested in the nightlife there. What are the spots to be at night. Also if anyone knows on some cool websites that can give me more info. on the nightlife please send them to me. Thanks.

If you go to Barrio Antiguo at Downtown, for sure you will find cool nightlife.. from little bars, to bigger places where you can dance... Some of them has an entrance fee..others no..

You can also catch up good places for free like museums if you go during the week, like on wensday...

Chipinque Mountain is a good options also for hiking....

Check out the new (June?) issue of Saveur magazine

I just picked up a copy on the newstand yesterday -- the cover picture is a bowl of cherries -- and it has a feature on food in Monterrey.

I would also recommend the brewery / beisbol "salon de fama" (Mexican baseball players hall of fame) tours at the brewery. You can get there via the metro, it's a block from the stop (though my faulty memory won't tell me which stop it is). In fact, the metro is a good way to get around: efficient and inexpensive, especially if it's going where you want to go!
