bus from laredo to monterrey

by estudiante44

is anyone familiar with taking a bus from laredo to monterrey? is it better to take one from laredo or nuevo laredo? is getting tickets, etc. pretty simple for someone doing it for this first time? any info would be really appreciated, thanks!

Re: bus from laredo to monterrey

I'm originally from Monterrey and although I never traveled by bus, the answer to your question is affected by:

- do you speak spanish well enough to survive in a bus station? Even those here in the TX are NOT pretty nor well taken care of
- do you have any time restrictions?

the first question goes for obvious reasons. In laredo you'll find someone that speaks english anywhere... in Nvo. Laredo, not necessarily.

Question 2 relates to the time it takes for buses to cross the border. It can take anywhere from minutes to hours (just like on the way back) so if you can skip that part then it's probably better.

Finally, maybe that's not an option anymore but if you can drive or have someone drive you it'll be worth it because you'll get to the final destination you are aiming for. Monterrey is big... I mean BIG so getting to the bus station is one thing, moving around in the city is a whole different endeavor.

Good luck

Travel Tips for Monterrey

Dont loost the track

by arteimagen

Stay in the right way following the blue signals around downtown Monterrey and find the places you want to visit. If no blue signal are visible, try to ask somebody, english is our second tongue and many people are ready to show you their traductions skills

Old sombrero

by arteimagen

A few old men still use ranch style sombrero, in some case hand made. In this photo the girl is celebrating his 15 aniversary, in Mexico these celebratios is very special because it mark the end of the children and the beginning of the young woman.

Club

by John195123 about Nuchi

Eh, it's a nightclub... loud music, expensive drinks... the only benefit I found was good company when I was there: fellow students. It's not a bad place and wasn't as packed as some of the nightclubs in town. Lots of dancing. As always, dress respectably.

El Gran San Carlos

by jorgeparada about El Gran San Carlos

In El Gran San Carlos you can enjoy, the best Monterrey style stakes, ask for Aguja Norteña, Sirlon, T-Bone or Arrachera, also the Cabrito, Machito, Fritada and Frijoles Charros are very good, and all are traditional plates from Monterrey

Modern Art Museum Showcasing Mexican Talent

by Daniel_Williams

The excellent MARCO (35 peso entry) had an incredible exhibit of Maestros Mexicanos. There were two paintings I especially appreciated, one of birds that were trapped in ribbon (speaking of environmental destruction inhibiting their freedom I think) and one of a woman with many different poses (with a cut, with dandruff, sad, neutral, etc...), which spoke to me of the real vicissitudes of humanity.
