Travel from Laredo, TX to Monterrey, Mexico

by miller_cd

I will be driving to Laredo on Monday, hoping to cross into Mexico on Tuesday to move to Monterrey. I was wondering if the roads at the border crossings were open or closed do to the storm? I was also wondering if anyone knew about the road conditions once I am in Mexico. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I just drove through there a few days ago so I am still receiving the warnings...The US Consulate said that #1 and the Colombia bridges were closed. Bridge #2 is the only one, according to them, that is open. It is anticipated that the closed bridges will reopen July 10 which is Saturday. You should be fine. You can easily call the US Consulate in Nuevo Laredo to confirm. Good luck- I got stuck outside of Saltillo due to the flooding.

Travel Tips for Monterrey

Monterrey, the captial of Nuevo Leon

by lucyguajardo

It is considered one of the three most important cities in Mexico, for its great managerial and financial vigor. The city was founded in 1596 , but by the year 1846 the population was of less than 300 persons. It is located in a valley next to the famous Cerro de la Silla.
Thou its 400 years of existence, is a very modern city with no buildings older than 200 years

Roadside Grills

by TexasDave

Mostly on the weekends restaurants (and sometimes individuals) will set up grills on the side of the road and roast kid goats, chicken, sausages, etc.
Not exactly haute cuisine, but at least you see how and where it's being cooked, and the price is usually right.

Packing List

Light clotes, Monterrey is Really HOT, from April to October. Bring At least Stomach Medicines, mostrly if you have never tried mexican food, is very spicy, and contains lot of fat. All kind of batteries are available, and 120 V power.

Hot Dogs!

by John195123 about Various

Health food? Not here. The street vendors in Barrio Antiguo don't sell tacos or enchiladas. The don't sell burritos. They sell hot dogs. You can get them wrapped in bacon, with peppers and onions, with cheese inside.

Of all the street food I've eaten all over the world, these were absolutely decadent, but superb. Chicago dogs or whatever the famous hot dogs are in America just don't compare. If you go to Barrio Antiguo, get a hot dog. I don't care if you're vegan. It's worth it. :) They have good ketchup?
