Flight to Monterrey

by themask

I am travelling to Monterrey City from Manila, Philippines. My travel agent booked me on flight from Manila - Japan - Mexico City and domestic flight to Monterrey, but I haven't confirmed the flight.

My question is - Is there a flight that I can book that fly directly to Monterre via intl flight, but not transiting to any US state? I will be needing a transit visit if I go by any US state.

I am looking on a flight that will originate to Bangkok to Europe ( Madrid via Spanair) and saw some flight directly to Monterrey. Any tips?

2) Worst come to worst, is the Int'l airport near Domestic airport? Is the intl to domestic transfer convinient?

Not as convenient and probably inexpensive.
The airline would be Aero Mexico and use the same terminal in Mexico City. Tokyo may require a terminal change BUT, not an airport change

Thanks for the reply. So the int'l airport in Mexico City will just need a chamge of Terminal? Any idea if the luggage can be be pickup in Monterrey?

In Mexico, AeroMexico uses the same terminal, 2. You will have to collect your bag, clear customs and immigration and replace it on a conveyor for the next destination. Signage is quite good and there are people to assist with direction.

I don't know whether you can get to Mexico from Asia other than going thru MexCity; but possibly you could check about landing in TIJUANA, and then there are airlines to go to Monterrey without having to go via MC; i.e., VivaAerobus http://www.vivaaerobus.com/us/tijuana.htm

and this website looks to be a consolidation of airlines betwn the two: http://www.airninja.com/discountairlines/fromMonterreyMexico/toTijuanaMexico.htm

Travel Tips for Monterrey

My Apartment

by John195123

I got an apartment for $550 USD a month, $50 more than it should have been because I changed the lease to run only five months. It had no A/C, no heat... was very basic for a two room apartment, and, really, just the way I wanted it. Ridiculously hot at night, frigid in the January mornings, but comfortable, especially with cheap computer prints of my photo work on the walls. Mis Amigos, really, but I did like the apartment, right above a pharmacy. It's weird writing pharmacy with a "ph"...

Walking in town

by John195123

It is customary, when walking, to place the woman closer to the building and the man closer to the road. If the woman walks closer to the road than the man, or on the road-side of the sidewalk, that can mean that the man is advertising the woman (as a prostitute). Women walking together need not worry about this so much. And men need not worry at all.

Packing List

by AuntBec

This is a totally personal decision. What kind of bag would YOU take anywhere? Wear light weight and light colored clothing. It is hot, hot, hot from April until November. Then it's just warm until March. The normal stuff, but don't forget something for the tummy if you are delicate. Monterrey is a completely modern town. Anything you don't have, you would be able to get. My idea of camping is no room service. There is no beach here, it's an industrial city. But there is a national park within the mountain range at the edge of the city. I'm sure there is a lot to do. You should be sensitive enough to the culture to at least bring a Spanish phrase book if you don't speak some Spanish.

LA HABANA CLUB

by Ainda about LA HABANA CLUB

This is a very nice place to visit, this is a restaurant bar, it has a restaurant area and also a bar area, the bar area is soo cool, there are leather couches all over the site and they are so dammed comfortable seats! you´ll also find candles on each table and the drinks are great! No open bar but prices are okey...I recomend the ABC drink....shots!
they´ll get you hammered!
The music they play it´s not the comercial music, they play dance music but the good tunes! Dressy, not to dressy but nice, maybe I can call it casual.

Try Menudo - not a restaurant,...

Try Menudo - not a restaurant, but a wonderful dish in the Mexican style.
Menudo is good! Especially at 5:00 AM after binge drinking. Menudo is tripe soup, laced with generous additions of oregano. It is said that menudo cures 'la cruda', or a hangover, as one might experience from massive consumption of tequila. (Forget the burning rotgut tequila shooters from high school days, though - nowadays highbrow sippin' tequila is in vogue, and one can hang on to a shot glass, sipping slowly, for an hour or so, until it is time for a refill)
