A simple kiss
by John195123
Men and women greet, as do women, with a kiss, right cheek to right cheek. Men shake hands in any maschination of ways. It is interesting to see youth, with no adults around, greet each other in this way. It is a custom they like and use everyday. It is much more formal and yet informal, friendly, than greetings in America (unless among friends or family of course). But this tip is just to let you know what to expect when you meet someone in Monterrey, or in Mexico.
Salsa Dancing till You Fall !!!
by CeciliaL
If you are interseted to do something fun, mix with locals, I would strongly recommend going to a salsa dance club. It is a lot of fun.
I had my salsa dancing experience in Monterrey. People in Mexico seem to be born to dance. They just seem to fly on the dance floor. And in my case....... well, let's say, I need a few (maybe a lot more) practises. But I had a great time, the other local in the restaurant seemed to be willing to rescue this lost soul. A couple of them gave me very good lessons. But NO, I still can't do salsa......
Parking lot
by arteimagen
This is a city with almost 3 million innhabitants, so parking your car could be a difficult problem, specialy in commercial centers or cinema centers. You can find heavy traffic 7:30-9:00, 12:00-14:00 and 18:00-20:00 hrs.
El Tio
by scarm about El Tio
El Tio is a long-standing Monterrey mainstay. It has been in business for years and years, and has time honored traditions, and like any Mexican restaurant worth it's salt, it has photographs of the owner, the owner's family and friends, and many grand-children, and the grand-children of the loyal clients. One picture features the restaurant's founder, Don Rodrigo Velarde Reyes (El Tio, or the uncle), with the great Mexican comedian Cantinflas, and another features him on horseback in an aged photo that looks like it might have been taken in the revolutionary Pancho Villa days. Athough El Tio passed away back in 1985, the tradition that he started many years ago lives on, as the quality of the offerings, and the authentic surroundings are evident. Cabrito (baby goat), or any of a number of assorted meat dishes, including the Tampiquena, or the a la ranchera.
