Affordable and comfortable Colonial Style

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 20, 2011

I started searching for hotels mostly based on location since I wanted to be within easy walking distance from the center. Based on photos on the internet, posted price and location on the map, I chose Hotel Aitana as a central point to explore the city and was glad I did.

The outside of the hotel on the street is nothing very impressive, but it is old colonial style, opening up to an inner courtyard with its dining patio and reception. The rooms are then either on the ground or first floor along a corridor leading even further from the street.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, not overly furnished, but spacious. The staff are very courteous and helpful. The only downsides, if any to the hotel are:
- the walls are rather thin so you may hear other guests or people walking in the corridor
- particularly on the ground floor, little natural light gets into the rooms

Unique Quality: There is no air conditioning, but due to the clean fresh air of the mountains, the ceiling fan is more than adequate.
TV's are in all the rooms, but I can't speak for the available channels since I never turned it on.
Breakfast is included in the room rate, with huevos al gusto, various fruits, toast, juice and coffee/tea.
WiFi is free with a password given at reception.
Two water bottles are available daily in your room, but there is a free refill pitcher in the courtyard.

Directions: About three blocks north of Av. Independencia and 1 block west of the central plaza.
