More about Oaxaca Ollin

great trip

by A TripAdvisor Member

We recently visited Oaxaca with friends and stayed at Ollin. The trip was memorable, very interesting and the crew at Ollin was very generous and helpful. Jon and Judith were great hosts and the rest of the staff friendly and considerate, the accomodations really comfortable and pleasant and the breakfasts were great. There is a nice library of books and music and the artwork and local crafts on display are excellent; we visited two of the wonderful craftsman's studios (weaving and wood carvings) and were treated to great demonstrations of their work (and of course couldn't resist investing in it!), also toured Monte Alban, Mitla, visited the Rodolfo Morales home and foundation in Ocotlan, and enjoyed Oaxaca immensely. Judith's brother Cesar showed us around the area and shared his music with us.
The B&B provides a friendly atmosphere and it was easy to mingle with other guests and share experiences. We enjoyed the pool for a dip during the warm afternoons after days touring the town and its environs.
Thanks for a great time!

Oaxaca's Best Kept Secret

by TripAdvisor Member Sr_RoadRunner

My daughter and I just returned from a week in Oaxaca where we stayed at Casa Ollin. This is a beautiful, spotless, small B&B that is near enough to walk most places in the city, but in a quiet neighborhood so that you don't have the street noises. The hosts, Jon and Judith, are very friendly and informative about the area. They made arrangements with Cesar for us and three other hotel guests to take a day long trip to outlying villages. He was very patient while five women took their time shopping. He knew the best places to go for the crafts. The cook prepared wonderful substantial breakfasts each morning, serving regional dishes plus a variety of fresh fruits and juices. I can certainly recommend the Casa Ollin to anyone who might be traveling to Oaxaca.

Home away from Home

My husband and I stayed at the Ollin for three nights. We were welcomed immediately by friendly staff. Our room, bathroom and patio were spotlessly clean upon arrival; they were kept this way throughout our stay. Rather than an in-room safe, our room had an entire wardrobe that could be locked. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts, which included fresh juices, coffee and hot chocolate. Before our main Oaxacan breakfast entrees, we were always served a plate of fresh fruit and pastries. This was a great way to start the day! The Ollin also has a nice pool in the courtyard. The location was just a few blocks from Santo Domingo, and there is a small grocery and pharmacy nearby. Most importantly, though, is the staff. They are super friendly and willing to help out in any way. Judith was extremely helpful and willing to coordinate activities. We would definitely stay at Ollin again.

Cleaner than clean!

by TripAdvisor Member kayaker1

Cleaner than clean, firm beds, gracious staff, wonderful food, convenient location, fairly priced--all contributed to our thoroughly enjoying a seven-day stay in Oaxaca. Thank you.

Lovely stay.

We recently returned from a week stay in Oaxaca. Oaxaca Ollin was a lovely place to stay. The rooms were small but extremelly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was absolutely wonderful. It was a pleasure meeting such friendly people. Oaxaca Ollin is a beautiful, peaseful haven and we really enjoyed our stay. One warning - remember there are no televisions in the rooms. Sports fanatic husband was suffering serious ESPN withdrawals by the third day!

Fantastic Experience

by TripAdvisor Member Taniad

When we came back from Oaxaca we didn't hesitate on recommending to all our friends about Casa Ollin. As guests, we felt like we were staying at a close friend's home.
Ollin is perfectly located just couple of block from Santo Domingo Monastery, the Zocalo and Historic Museums. Oaxaca has great places to visit and learn about Mesoamerica, Pre Columbian art, and Ancient Zapotec and Mistec cultures.
John and Judith, the owners, are tremendous hostesses; they make sure people keep coming back to their Bed and Breakfast. Ollin's staff (Sofi, Carlos, Guille, Vicki, and Rodolfo) are just amazing people.
Our holiday was an unforgettable experience due to the Ollin's hospitality that made our stay exquisitely enjoyable.

Muchas Gracias

A gem in a beautiful part of Mexico

John and Judith run a welcoming, warm, clean bed and breakfast just a ten minute walk to the north of the Zocalo in Oaxaca. It's a family establishment, and you often see their friends and family spending time there in the afternoon, helping with maintainence, or taking guests on tours of the surrounding area. I spent four nights there and enjoyed the company of the hosts as well as the other guests. A highlight was the mezcal tasting from their house brand on the first evening I was there.

As a quiet, warm, and service oriented alternative to the larger hotels in the center of Oaxaca, I would highly reccommend a stay there.

Jon and Judith were wonderful hosts. The rooms and surroundings were quite pleasant. We enjoyed local cuisine for breakfast and enjoyed the warm, friendly environment. Location was excellent for exploring the town.

Casa Ollin B&B in Oaxaca

by TripAdvisor Member SueQuinn

We spent 8 nights at the Casa Ollin in Oaxaca in July/Aug 2006; wonderful location (2 blocks north of Santo Domingo) on a quiet residential street. It's great to get to the calm of this casa after a day exploring the old city, or the villages.

Breakfasts are great: not one was repeated in 8 days, and not one was huevos. Lovely art and crafts decorate the public rooms; there's a bookshelf full of Oaxaca culture, crafts and food to supplement whatever you didn't have time to read or plan before you got there.

Judith, the owner of Ollin, is a lovely hostess; staff are helpful and gracious. Rooms are big enough; beds are comfortable; pool is newly added. See the website for more info/ picts. A suggestion: If you plan to shop for breakable crafts, bring your a roll of bubble wrap.

An excellent stay in a fascinating place
