P. Escondido to P. Angel

by travlinsouth

If I fly into PE, how hard, long, expensive, etc. is it to get to Puerto Angel?

Is it hard to rent cheap places by the month in either place?

I'm more into diving than surfing. Is there a "best place" for that along this coast?

RE: P. Escondido to P. Angel

local busses are plentyful and very cheap.
no problem getting from one place to another.

puerto escondido has strong waves and is probaply not that good for diving, but puerto angel has more still waters and should be better for diving.

both places has many cheap hotels and beach huts to rent.
especially if you rent for longer periods.

Sounds good, thanks!

So would it be like an hour bussing from one place to the other?

if i remember right then it's between 1 and 2 hours.
there are a couple of nice neaches in between the 2 towns you might wanna have a look at aswell called zipolite and mazunte.
they are very popular with the young backpacker crowd.

puerto angel is very small, people move to mazunte better or chacahua, for surfing better go to puesrto escodnido or mazunte, dangerous waves in zipolite..

you can take a flisght to puerto esc, or bus there later move to pochutla and later a taxi to puerto angel

I assume this makes more sense than flying to Huatulco, right?

I think it doesnt merrer where you fly to. P. Angel is somewhere in the middle of P.Escondido and Huatulco. Just take a bus to pochutla (last year we payed 25 pesos from P.E., SUR company).
In Pochutla just wait for a blue pick-up in front of the station. It will take you down to P.Angel for 5 pesos (taxi costs 50).

Thanks, folks.
Now I'll look into whether it's cheaper to fly to Escondido or Hualtulco.
My impression is that Huatulco doesn't really have a "town" to stay in, just mostly big hotels. Is that about the size of it?

Hey! You hijacking my thread, Mono? Does this mean you're heading there, too?

Just a passing thought, but looking at your picture, it might not be a bad idea :-)

RE: RE: P. Escondido to P. Angel

Thanks, but the only reason I'm going there is to wash my hair.

Travel Tips for Puerto Escondido

Beach vendors.

by cachaseiro

In Puerto Escondido you have quite a few people making a living from selling food and drink on the beach.
They are usually not the hustling type and very friendly and polite so i like to support them when i am there.
In my opinion you get the best food in Mexico from buying from the people on the street or on the beach, so i recommend you support these people.

Puerto Escondido is still a fishing town.

by cachaseiro

One of the charms of Puerto Escondido is that it is still an active fishing town.
They don´t have a real harbour but pull the boats up on the beach, but there are still a fair bunch of guys making a living from the sea and it gives it a bit more of a feeling of being a real town and not just a holiday place.

Ventenilla (25km east of Puerto Escondido)

by leffe3

Heading east out of Puerto Escondido towards Puerto Angel, just after the turn-off off Route 200 is Ventenilla - a glorious, almost deserted beach that is also the centre for trips to the lagoon that borders the beach (and crosses it in the wet season). Three or four cafes/palapas and the reserve's HQ are all that you will find here.
Access is along a dirt track (about 2 kms) just after the coastal turn off from the 200 paved road towards Puerto Angelo & Mazunte. Buses between PE & PA pass this way.

surfers, yes. single, no.

"beautiful beautiful beautiful"

Puerto is a place with the most beautiful waves I have ever seen! My friend and I initially went to check out the hot surfers (big surprise) but they were all with their girlfriends!!!
Anyway, beyond that, you will stare at the waves for hours and not tire. Each one is so clean and unique. It´s a great town (you will probably spend all your time on the main street) for food, shopping and surf watching. The best place to stay is Zicatela (the main beach with all the surf).

GONZO TIP: Pay for a boat to take you out fishing, then have a local restaurant fry it up for you.

Puerto Escondido, a surfers paradise.

by mocca

Puerto is a nice little down which is all about the beaches there. For surfers and Body boarders it surely is heaven with big hollow pits. For the other tourists, just sit on the beach and watch the crazy men and woman do their thing.
There are many other things around Puerto to do, so you won't be bored for sure.
