Hotel Colonial: A family favorite

I love the staff for its friendliness, efficiency and the comfortable atmosphere they create. Although the prices have increased through the years I feel it remains a good value. My brother who has worked throughout the world for a geothermal energy company declared it one of the world's best. I have taken 25 non-relatives to this hotel and everyone loved it, but this is not a luxury hotel. I think it is rated 3 stars out of 5.
The central enclosed patio restaurant is justly popular with locals for Sunday comida and a great place for breakfast or other meals. The hotel is often full, but has been reliable in honoring phone reservations with credit cards. There is a parking garage and a small elevator.
Set in a historic building that was originally the bishop's residence, this long existing hotel with such a common name, is a unique, comfortable place to stay. It has my favorite type of location. As of my last visit it remained independent and not part of a chain. Many of the friendly staff have worked there for many years. There has been a recent renovation that did nothing to harm its charm while adding internet connections and other upgrades. It faces a small traffic free plaza with a church and school. Many rooms have small balconies. The roof top views are fabulous.
You have to explore this hotel, but do not expect a museum. Some of the paintings are probably hundreds of years old, while other decorations seem to be cheap additions of maybe 40 or 50 years ago and prior hotel rennovations.
