Plaza de Armas & Governor's Palace
by JessieLang
Plaza de Armas (Independence Square) is older—it was built in the 18th Century, and is surrounded by beautiful colonial buildings. Its fountain has a large statue in the center, and a dog at each corner on the base. The water comes out of the dogs’ mouths.
The Casa de la Corregidor (Governor’s Palace) is across the street. It is now the seat of state government (the city of Querétaro is the capital of the state of Querétaro.) There was always a guard in the doorway, but one day I asked if it was open to the public. Limited areas were, and I was able to go into a stunningly beautiful courtyard. What an office environment that would be!

Economic growth has been outstanding during the last decade. Today, Querétaro is a wealthy city in Latin America in terms of PPP GDP, with $16,057,[2] similar to that of advanced Eastern European countries. Querétaro debuted in 13th place in the 2006 rankings of the "Best Cities to do Business in Latin America" in América Economía, a leading economic magazine.[3] In the 2007 rankings, it is considered the second best place in Mexico to do business,[3] after Monterrey and the fifth best in Latin America, ahead of Miami in 6th place. In 2008, National Geographic listed Querétaro as one of the top 15 historic destinations of the World
